Job Description:
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Senior Histocompatibility Technologist in the Transplant Laboratory department.
Here you will directly support the UCM Transplant Institute and you will perform testing for both patient and potential transplant donors to support both solid and bone marrow transplant program at UCMC and partnership with Advocate.
Operating within UChicago Medicine's Department of Pathology, we provide reference laboratory testing to various related and unrelated health care entities, managed care organizations and non-affiliated hospitals, outpatient clinics and private physicians' offices.
We offer a full range of diagnostic services.
This department is Transplant Laboratory.
This position is a 100% onsite opportunity.
You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Routinely performs a wide range of clinical analyses in all sections of the laboratory by properly utilizing a variety of methodologies and instrumentation.
Adheres to and assists in enforcing policies and procedures to assure results of the highest level of quality to physicians and their patients.
Provides technical leadership to Histocompatibility technologists.
Serves as the primary specialist and is responsible to assist in the development and evaluation of new methodologies and instrumentation.
Provides continued support for these new procedures after implementation into routine diagnostic practice.
Essential Job Functions Receives specimens submitted to laboratory and evaluates for acceptability Prepares and maintains adequate stocks of reagents, standards, control materials and other supplies required for the performance of testing at assigned workstations Performs procedures designated under CLIA 88 standards as either moderate or high complexity testing and is competent on all procedures in this laboratory including those related to safety and equipment /instruments Analyzes all test and quality control results for errors, inconsistencies and deviations prior to reporting results and troubleshoots to resolve issues Prepares patient reports as assigned by senior management Assists in establishing and maintaining continual compliance with policies, procedures, and record keeping necessary to meet the standards of accrediting or regulatory agencies Provides specialized support in the development, evaluation and implementation of new clinical laboratory procedures, equipment and processes Provides continued technical support after clinical implementation Leads and/or participates in process improvements and other quality functions Serves as a technical resource to answer questions and troubleshoot issues Attends training sessions, seminars and workshops to maintain and enhance necessary clinical laboratory science skills Assists in training new employees, students, pathology residents, others Performs other duties as requested by senior management Required Qualifications Must satisfy CLIA 88 qualification requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testing Bachelors degree in clinical laboratory science or related field from an accredited college or university At least three years prior work experience required for certified individuals with practical clinical laboratory experience or a minimum of five years of pertinent clinical laboratory work experience for non-certified individuals Knowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospital information systems Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment.
Knowledge or training in southern blot and other molecular biology protocols Ability to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levels Ability to stand, stretch and bend for majority of time worked; ability to lift 30 pounds; exceptional organizational skills; attention to detail mandatory; ability to work in stressful situations Preferred Qualifications Certification or eligibility as Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) through the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) with Certification or eligibility as Medical Technologist (MT), or specialist (S) through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent Position Details Job Type/FTE: Full-Time (1.0) Shift: Day Shift, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Work Location: Hyde Park Unit/Department: Transplant Lab CBA Code: Non-Union
