Matrix New World is currently seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist in our Phoenix, Arizona, location.
Matrix is a growing full-service environmental services and engineering firm offering unmatched expertise in delivering some of the nation's most exciting and complex groundwater supply and water resource projects in Arizona and the southwest U.S. As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will join a team of diverse and passionate professionals tasked with evaluating hydrogeologic conditions, analyzing aquifer performance tests, conducting groundwater modeling, and designing and overseeing the installation of water supply and production wells. This position requires technical expertise, outstanding communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Core Responsibilities: Manage multidisciplinary environmental projects in characterization studies of complex geologic and hydrogeologic sites. Lead industrial compliance activities such as Aquifer Protection Permitting (APP), Underground Storage facility permits, ADWR permitting, and rules. Serve as Project Manager, providing oversight and management for the permitting, design, installation, and testing of water production wells and aquifer storage and recovery wells. Interpret hydrogeologic systems, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Design and analyze aquifer tests and characterize groundwater flow. Analyze and interpret subsurface characteristics through drilling programs and geophysical investigations (i.e., installation of soil borings/monitoring wells/production wells, logging soil/rock cores, vertical aquifer profile, direct imaging borings, etc.). Direct and oversee fieldwork programs, including site characterization, drilling supervision, well installation and maintenance, hydraulic testing, and water quality sampling. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, analysis, and reporting. Prepare and/or manage technical documents related to investigation plans, testing, findings, and recommendations. Lead and support project development and delivery (proposals, project management, client relations, senior reviews, team development and training). Work collaboratively with other senior members of the group to implement the business growth strategy. Develop, service, and maintain key client relationships. Mentor junior and intermediate staff to support their growth and professional development. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a closely related discipline. 10 years of professional experience. Professional Geologist or Engineer designation, or ability to obtain registration, in the relevant jurisdiction(s). Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to evaluate data and identify cost-effective environmentally responsible solutions for clients. Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide variety of external clients, subcontractors, and third-party stakeholders. Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a dynamic work environment. Willingness to travel for occasional work assignments. Highly proficient with analytical geology concepts, research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques. Preferred Qualifications: Graduate or higher degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geochemistry, or a similar field. Strong technical skills, with demonstrated applications of hydrogeological and geochemistry principles, quantitative hydrogeology and/or geotechnical testing. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), GIS, numerical modeling, etc. Experience with Arizona's Aquifer Protection Permit (APP) program. Knowledge of Arizona water policy and regulations.Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to evaluate data and identify cost-effective environmentally responsible solutions for clients. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER health and MSHA.
