Senior Inspector

Senior Inspector West Columbia, SC Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is actively seeking a Senior Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Columbia, SC to support various transportation projects with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). We are pleased to offer a $3,000 sign-on bonus to eligible candidates possessing certifications in SCDOT Asphalt Roadway, Earthwork and Base, Concrete Level 1 & 2, and ACI Field Concrete Technician. Position Summary The inspector will monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance/specifications for culvert structures and bridge construction of moderate to considerable complexity. In addition to inspection responsibilities, the inspector may be required to also provide inspection/project management, under the direction of a Project Manager. This Inspector will provide direction to junior inspectors on the project as needed.
Job Responsibilities Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports/forms. Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance. Inspect roadway and structures for conformance to plans and specifications. Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts and structural operations such as foundation excavation. Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill. Verifies lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment. Perform accurate calculations and computations. Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications. Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications. Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor. Recording Daily Work Reports to include quantities in Site Manager and for American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASTHO) projects. Qualifications/Requirements HS diploma required or equivalent required. Associates or BS in Civil Engineering a plus. SCDOT roadway and bridge inspection experience desired. SCDOT Asphalt Roadway, Earthwork and Base, Concrete Level 1 & 2 and ACI Field Concrete Technician required. Proficient in Microsoft programs. Above average math and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English. Must be legally authorized to work in the US. Must have a current driver's license with a safe driving record; ICE is a drug free work place. Physical Demands The inspector must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. The inspector must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.

Expected Hours of Work This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.
