Job Description
The New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy is a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C., working to enhance U.S. foreign policy based on a deep understanding of the geopolitics of the different regions of the world and their value systems. The Special Initiatives team at the New Lines Institute seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a Senior Intern, Program Assistant supporting the activities and work streams of the Transnational Repression Working Group (TNR). A successful candidate will be offered a six-month internship with potential opportunities for extension or transition to full time.
Program Description
Special Initiatives analyzes issues of significant importance to U.S. policymakers and focuses on global issues that are not receiving enough attention. It produces research and analysis that is timely, targeted, and designed to be highly impactful from a policy perspective. The role of the Special Initiatives team is to forge and sustain partnerships with relevant domestic and international actors to help drive policy based on New Lines' mission, vision, and principles.
The Transnational Repression Working Group (TNR) is an emerging portfolio. As Program Assistant, the successful applicant will report directly to the TNR Non-Resident Fellow and the Senior Director for Special Initiatives. The primary role of the intern will be to support the planning and execution of the TNR launch event, which will be a one-day conference to align with the publication of the TNR Anthology and inaugural meeting of the working group. Additional tasks may be assigned to support the mission of TNR.
Responsibilities
Planning Support
Assists with monitoring and tracking global policy developments related to TNR's mission and key priorities.
Supports the Non-Resident Fellow and TNR team in the development and implementation of strategies for TNR engagement and partnership with key international partners.
Assists with building, mapping, and maintaining a database of key relationships with partners from the U.S. federal government, as well as international organizations, civil society, think tanks, and the private sector.
Supports all project management activities including developing and updating portfolio documents.
Creates targeted outreach lists and tracks schedules of high-level conferences, events, or other relevant policy conversations that present partnership opportunities for the Institute.
Coordinates and facilitates meetings with internal and external partners.
Budget and Contract Management
Assists with budgeting and implementation plans for TNR.
Event Planning
Supports all aspects of TNR launch organization, management, and implementation.
Assists with D.C.-based events related to TNR and other SI projects as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Junior or senior pursuing BA in international relations, political science, regional studies or related field. Recent graduates are welcome to apply.
One year of work experience, preferably office experience, demonstrating familiarity with coordination and administrative support responsibilities.
Superb interpersonal skills; good humor and discretion.
Excellent writing skills.
Strong attention to detail, including time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment not necessarily in a 9-to-5 setting.
Competence in administration and financial management.
Strong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Experience organizing conferences, meetings, and events preferred.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and strong interpersonal skills, including cross-cultural communication.
Location : This position is based in Washington, D.C., but will operate on a hybrid schedule. This position requires the applicant to be located in the Washington, D.C., area so they may attend in-person work days, events, and meetings.
Pay:

Remuneration for this position is $20-25/hour.
