Join the Regulatory & Specialty Legal team at the world's largest retailer and advise business and leadership about existing and emerging regulatory frameworks across a wide range of areas including product regulatory, food safety, alcohol, licensing & permits, and more.
The Senior Lead Counsel – Regulatory role is a key role, responsible for developing and driving a consistent regulatory compliance strategy across our existing and new businesses.
You will collaborate closely with teammates across legal and compliance and with our business partners.
You will also appropriately leverage a wide range of outside counsel expertise, with an eye to effectively managing legal risk and spend.
Key Responsibilities of the role: Legal Strategy and LeadershipDevelop and implement legal strategies to support business objectives while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.Provide expert legal advice and guidance on regulatory issues across a wide range of regulatory regimes, including product safety, consumer protection, food safety, licensing and permitting, and alcohol, tobacco, and firearms compliance.Regulatory ComplianceMonitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting the retail industry and advise on their impact.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to regulated products.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement compliance programs and policies.Risk ManagementIdentify and assess legal risks related to regulatory compliance and propose risk mitigation strategies.Manage and resolve regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.Provide legal support for product recalls and other regulatory actions.Stakeholder EngagementLiaise with regulatory agencies and represent the company in regulatory proceedings.Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including product development, marketing, and operations teams.Conduct training and awareness programs for employees on regulatory compliance issues.Documentation and ReportingDraft, review, and negotiate regulatory documents, agreements, and contracts.Prepare and present reports to senior management on regulatory compliance status and legal risks.Experience required for the role: Experience in a corporate legal department or a top-tier law firm.Specialized knowledge from a regulatory legal role.Previous experience in a senior legal role with leadership responsibilities.Prior federal or state government experience.Minimum Qualifications:
Law degree from an accredited law school and 7 years' experience in law.
License to practice law in at least one state.
4 years' experience leading cross-functional teams.
