Mechanical Project Engineer (HVAC Design) Location: Hybrid with 1-3 days per week on site in Aberdeen, MD. There will also be occasional trips to Lakehurst, NJ. Job Scope: Design, production and sealing of HVAC construction documents for computer rooms, machine shops, electronics' labs and a variety of administrative areas. Experience in the design and analysis of computer rooms, electronic labs, geothermal systems, chilled/heating water systems, and VAV systems is preferred. Licensure: An active PE license in any state is acceptable, as long as all the qualifications required to obtain a MD and NJ license are met. NCEES record in good standing or in process. Security Clearance: A security clearance is not required, but the successful candidate will eventually require a TS-SCI clearance. Software: Proficient in Carrier HAP Software, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Teams, and MS Word. Working knowledge of AutoCAD is desired, but not required. Communications: Excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills. Primary Responsibilities: Work with Consultants, Clients, MCFA Senior Mechanical Engineers and contractors to develop and document design goals, criteria and concepts. Perform existing conditions survey for renovation projects. Perform HVAC load calculations, air & water pressure drop calculations in support of design. Develop the HVAC design concepts into construction documents that meet the design goals and criteria. Sign & Seal HVAC Construction Documents. Perform Construction Administration duties including construction monitoring, site visit report generation, shop drawing review, shop drawing processing, and responding to contractor RFI's. Handle multiple projects at one time while maintaining client satisfaction. Perform all work with minimal supervision and coordinate with a quality assurance/quality control supervisory team. Interface with clients and attend meetings regularly. Produce drawings consistent with client requirements, code compliance, and site standards. Other Duties: Work with MCFA Senior Mechanical Engineers to analyze and troubleshoot existing HVAC Systems and Equipment. Work with MCFA Senior Mechanical Engineers to develop control diagrams and sequences of operation. Develop Scope of Work documents for HVAC repairs. Assist in creating commissioning plans, in writing functional performance tests and in performing project commissioning. Work with Vendors and contractors to develop ROM costs. Qualifications: Possess a strong awareness of current and emerging industry standards, vendors, and technologies as they relate to the data center facility infrastructure industry. Display a working knowledge of facility plumbing systems including sanitary drainage systems, water distribution systems, natural and LP gas distribution systems, fuel-oil distribution systems, and plumbing fixtures and water heating equipment. Though an in-depth knowledge of data center electrical systems (generator, UPS, lighting, power distribution, etc.) is not required, a general knowledge and understanding of these systems and their impact on mechanical systems is a plus. Knowledge of CAD software is a plus. Expertise in MS Word, and MS Excel, as well as design and calculation software. Ability to coordinate with clients, engineers, architects, contractors, and consultants to analyze mechanical requirements & develop designs for both new and retrofit projects. Possess strong record keeping skills as well as a good sense of coordination and follow through. Mastered reading and interpreting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings and design documents. Possess detailed knowledge of specifications. Excellent verbal and writing skills. Have solid knowledge of codes and standards for his/her trade. Have knowledge of ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) construction costs. Relevant Design Experience: Computer/Server Room design including Hot and Cold Aisle Containment, Underfloor, In-row and ceiling cooling systems. HVAC Systems including Geothermal & Hybrid Geo Systems, Chilled Water Systems, Boiler Systems, DOAS, JCI Metasys & Tridium BAS Systems. Small & Medium Sized projects (1,000 – 50,000 sq.ft.).
