Senior Mechanical EngineerAbout the RoleAt Parallel Fluidics, we are building the infrastructure to power the next generation of life science tools.
We seek a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the development of a next-generation life science instrument for microfluidic applications.
This role requires expertise in electromechanical system design, pressure and flow control systems, and sealing interface design.
You will work in a dynamic startup environment, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions for cutting-edge microfluidic technology.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and engineering: Develop concepts for next generation instrument architecture.
Lead mechanical engineering effort for systems and components, including:
Moving mechanical assemblies
Sealing interfaces
Pressure control systems
Electronics integration
Automation integration
Project management: Work with leadership to develop and refine product requirements.
Manage outside consultants in related disciplines.
Develop accurate product development timelines.
Provide regular progress updates to leadership.
Prototyping and Testing: Create and iterate prototypes to validate designs and refine functionality.
Design and execute verification tests to ensure systems meet requirements.
Analyze performance data and implement design improvements.
Scale-up: Oversee the transition of designs from prototyping to scalable manufacturing.
Ensure products meet all necessary regulatory requirements.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the design, software, and microfluidics teams to integrate subsystems.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advancements in mechanical engineering, lab automation, and microfluidics.
Identify opportunities for improving performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in future generations of products.
QualificationsRequired: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on electromechanical systems and fluid control.
Strong understanding of pressure control systems, design for manufacturing, and sealing technologies.
Proven track record of bringing electromechanical systems to market.
Excellent communication and project management skills.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion, or equivalent).
Preferred: Familiarity with cleanroom environments and microfabrication processes.
Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards for laboratory instrumentation.
Experience building microfluidic technologies.
