Location: San Francisco Bay Area Company: My client, a pioneering company in the field of sustainable metal production, is revolutionizing the industry by developing carbon-neutral methods for producing magnesium metal directly from seawater and brines. This innovative approach significantly reduces the environmental impact traditionally associated with metal production. With strong backing from top investors and a substantial partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, the company aims to drastically reduce the socio-environmental effects of producing structural metal. About the Role: The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support the scale-up of the technology to commercial scale. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position offers the opportunity to be a key player in the scale-up and design of their revolutionary electrolytic process technology. The role will involve close collaboration with technology partners, consultants, and team members to develop and optimize mechanical systems for chemical process technology. Compensation and Benefits: Salary $100,000 to $160,000 (based on experience) Comprehensive health insurance (costs fully covered by the employer). Generous stock option package. Relocation support. Bonuses 401k match Key Responsibilities: Co-lead the mechanical engineering program for scaling up to a commercial-scale demonstration plant. Co-manage design documentation, including CAD and digital twins required for electrical, piping, and structural elements of the demonstration plant. Develop and promote knowledge and insights into the mechanical design and fabrication of mechanical systems for chemical process technology. Create cost-optimized designs for mechanical equipment supporting the scale-up of chemical process technology and deliver physically constructed versions of those designs. Optimize the design, fabrication, and operation of core process technology, including brine handling systems, thermal processes, electrolysis systems, and foundry tools. Requirements: BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering. Over 5 years of experience operating successfully in an industrial setting. Strong competence in thermal process technology and the ability to rapidly and safely prototype complex and hazardous equipment. Preferred skills in molten salt, minerals, and/or electrolysis.
