We are looking for a talented network engineer to join our team in Suitland, MD. You will provide senior network engineering support for NOAA's satellite operations missions. You will support mission operations, routine maintenance, troubleshooting and anomaly detection/resolution, refresh and modernization planning, network integrations, and security hardening. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be expected to plan and lead projects, manage resources, report to our government customer, develop standard operating procedures, and help train a team of network engineers.

We expect you to have a passion for building and maintaining highly available networks. You should have a desire to work with satellite data and products for the public and government. Besides, you should be able to perform well working in a team, along with developers, engineers and scientists.
This position is located at a government facility in Suitland, MD. The position is eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
Operate and maintain network infrastructureIdentify, design, plan, and implement network upgrades and configuration changes to support architectural improvements, address new requirements, and updates to address security vulnerabilities and obsolescenceDetect, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve operational problems within the LAN/WAN infrastructureMonitor and report on device health, utilization, uptime, usage, security issues, and anomaliesDevelop and lead technical training for other network staffCreate and maintain documents including Standard Operating ProceduresDevelop and refine network topology diagramsProvide on-call and after-hours support when requiredSupport security testing, hardening, and assessments to meet strict compliance and operational security requirements 10+ years of network administration or engineering experienceExperience with designing and maintaining highly available networks including fault-tolerance, redundancy, failover, and continuity of operationsDetailed experience configuring and maintaining next-generation firewalls (NGFW), security zones, and defense-in-depthKnowledge of routing protocols including OSPF and BGPAbility to configure, optimize, and troubleshoot network protocols including VRRP (or HSRP), STP, LACP, MLAG (or vPC), Dot1q, and othersExperience with enterprise-grade network equipment including modular chassis switches, 40 or 100 Gb interfaces, and redundant supervisors and route processorsFamiliarity with cabling standards such as TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, IEEE, and othersExperience with issue tracking and configuration management systems and processesUnderstanding of security best practicesStrong problem solving skills and ability to work under pressureBS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related areaMust be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and able to pass a full background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility Experience with Federal government environments and concepts including NIST Risk Management Framework, NIST SP 800-53 security controls, and DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)Experience with a variety of network solution vendors including Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, and othersExperience with Solarwinds Orion and similar network monitoring tools Industry certifications such as Cisco certifications, Network+, Security+, and others
