The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida's social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida. NFETC employs a variety of entry-level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.
NORTHEAST FLORIDA STATE HOSPITAL IS A TOBACCO FREE FACILITY. North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to deliver top-tier mental health care and expert psychiatric services. The role involves patient evaluations, medication management, court-mandated reports, and active participation in treatment teams. The Psychiatrist will play a crucial role in providing individualized, evidence-based care to both civil and forensic patients while contributing to hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: Clinical Care: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, manage medications, and develop individualized treatment plans.Forensic Duties: Prepare court-ordered reports, provide expert testimony, and collaborate with legal teams on patient competency cases.Team Leadership: Lead interdisciplinary treatment teams, mentor staff, and recommend educational needs to enhance patient care.Quality Improvement: Participate in performance initiatives, review data, and implement corrective actions to improve outcomes.Hospital Committees: Engage in key hospital functions, including MEC and Forensic Board Review meetings, and contribute to policy decisions.Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Participation in court testimony and hospital meetings.Adherence to state regulations, hospital policies, and ethical standards.Performs other related duties, as required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position: This position requires certification in CPR, First Aid, MANDT, Infection Control, Customer Service, and OSHA requirements. Intervention with combative individuals may be required. Some driving may be required.
