JOB DESCRIPTION Senior Producer, Podcasts The Free Press Qualifications - The successful candidate will be an experienced producer, journalist and storyteller capable of pitching fantastic - ideas, booking a range of guests, and crafting scripted interviews from beginning to end that are engaging, surprising, fearless and of the highest journalistic standards. - You think deeply about story structure, and you are a skilled writer who is able to write intros, scripted interview questions, as well as scripted episodes. - You have a strong news sense and are able to work on tight, quick-turn and unpredictable deadlines during breaking news events and the election cycle. - You are able and open to working weekends and after-hours when needed. - You enjoy seeing an argument from both sides, like looking at a debate and finding a way to articulate the most generous versions of each argument. - You have a unique ability to empathize with those who do not see the world the way you see it. - You are confident and skilled at project management—ie, owning an episode autonomously from beginning to end with little oversight. At least seven years of audio journalism experience, including in longform interview shows and ideally, narrative or documentary as well. - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with high-profile guests. - You are an audio production juggernaut: someone who's comfortable listening to a ton of tape and stitching the gems together. You are not just proficient in Pro Tools, you love it. Responsibilities - Pitch new and exciting ideas for podcast episodes and shows - Follow through on those ideas by booking guests (including high profile and hard to get guests) and coordinating schedules and appearances. - Work with a team of producers and hosts to frame, research and prep (i.e. write all questions) for interviews. - Live producing interviews and directing hosts in real time. (This includes live fact-checking, offering new questions in the moment, stopping the interview if it needs to be refocused, getting pickups at the end as needed, etc.) - Responsible for all aspects of post production, including writing host intro and outro, collaborating with the team on script, editing interviews in Pro Tools, while keeping in mind what needs to be cut or restructured, keeping an eye on journalistic standards and fact-checking, scoring the episode and generally seeing the episode through to the end autonomously with little need for oversight. - Edit, score and mix episodes in Pro Tools for clarity, concision (no stumbles, ums, etc), and the highest quality of audio journalism. - Write edited transcripts of standout episodes of shows that are printed in the Free Press, keeping an eye for story structure and what is compelling on the page. - Identify social clips and moments for FP instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, etc. - Make episodes and shows that are engaging, surprising, fearless and world-class. - Manage daily deadlines needed to get episodes over the finish line.
