PURPOSE:
The Laser Technology Manufacturing Engineer performs functions associated with leading edge laser drilling equipment, Product Process development, driving capacity / capability solution paths and developing / improving manufacturing management systems.
We are seeking a tech-savvy engineer to make individual & team level contributions and has the ability to apply their education and past experience to solve new problems.
The successful candidate will want to gain an understanding and execute the existing processes, draw from their experience to help take our laser drilling tools & system processes to the next level to address bleeding edge challenges to keep up with industry requirements for laser drilling of advanced vertical probe card applications.
This role requires an advanced technical knowledge of laser systems and you will be responsible to support existing processes, excursion root cause analysis, NCR dispositions, MES enhancements when required and implementation of automated laser drilling process controls to automate our existing manual systems.
This position is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (on-site in Livermore) and will report directly to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Partner with the current process owners to learn the existing process recipe management system and supporting automating the manual processes and perform/document DOEs that are coupled with fundamental physics of the process to understand what our ultimate process capability limits are on existing and future equipment. Provide the manufacturing files and instructions for the new designs to ensure manufacturing readiness. Establish quality controls, yield tracking and tool health management to ensure laser drilling process capability for laser tools & raw materials are in spec and meet the requirements of current and future products. Establish quality controls on guide-plate hole dimensions, positions and accuracy as per the product requirements; ensure consistency across internally drilled components and from externally drilled sources. Develop solutions for drilling within extremely tight tolerances & shape of guide plates; control monitor and improve throughput, quality, yield and uptime. Drive the coordination to set-up maintenance of laser systems for drilling based on Key Performance Indicators (KPI's). Maintain, update and improve production work instructions & associated training and certification of production technicians. Submit IT tasks and partner with web app developers to update & modify factory MES system interface to Process equipment and automate recipe generation. Support to the Manufacturing Engineering activity by recognizing, prioritizing & acting on improvement opportunities, pioneering new ideas and finding innovative methods to accomplish goals.
Development & solution seeking to meet new requirements of new laser processes, which may include capability validation, Capital equipment procurement & commissioning. Project manage & participate in fleet expansion as we continue to grow our business & tighten our tolerances. Able to coordinate with equipment vendors to seek debug support, plan upgrades, solve issues or new equipment acquisitions as required. Partner with Production teams, employ long term repairs and communicate status and recovery plans throughout the issue resolution process. Develop and systematize methods to track & troubleshoot production issues, perform failure analysis, and drive long term resolutions. Collaborate with upstream and downstream process owners and other internal teams to perform any root cause analysis, process improvement and technical development. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: BS in Electrical or mechanical engineering + 5-7 years or equivalent experience in Semiconductor or equivalent technology equipment engineering Demonstrated problem-solving skills as related to manufacturing issues.
Able to work with limited supervision, is self-directed, and has a methodical approach to solving technical problems.
Familiarity with mechanical machined parts, CAD component & assembly drawings. Able to use hierarchy BOM structure to determine parts required for equipment repair or upgrades. Have solid computer skills on a variety of windows versions or equipment interfaces. Software experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point; Excel Macros, AutoCAD (JMP & MySQL are a Plus).
Experience in use of Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments; quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA & pFMEA), Root-cause Analysis (RCA), and/or Lean Manufacturing, 5's, 8D, corrective actions. Use hand tools including wrenches, dial indicators, calipers, thermal measurement devices & standards, laser energy meters and other various equipment technology specific laser drilling equipment. Working knowledge of addition, multiplication, algebra, geometry and physics will support process capability understanding and improvement. Good communication skills, both oral and written in English.
Familiarity with clean room procedures and protocols. WORKING CONDITIONS: Occasionally sitting, standing and working in a clean room environment for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day. Office environment Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, based on business requirements. Able to work in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor protocol/requirements. Work area has fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Moderate to loud noise level
The pay range for this role in Livermore is between $136,200 and $178,815.
The pay range may differ in other locations.
FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
