The Senior Scientist is expected to be an expert in the specific area in which they are employed. This position is expected to work closely with the Application Technology groups in Richmond, Essen, and Steinau to develop novel ingredients (e.g., surfactants). The position is expected to interact and communicate with internal customers (Applications, Sales & Marketing groups) as well as external customers. Additionally, this position is expected to work as the NPI project lead for new products and product transfers involving 4 sites globally. In addition to directing cross-Business Line projects, they should network globally with other technical experts within Evonik in order to expand their knowledge. Finally, this position is expected to adapt to, embrace and promote the technological advances that are part of Evonik's digitalization platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct all chemistries relevant to supported production facilities in the lab. Plan, prepare, run, evaluate, analyze and report on the product development, process improvements and scale-up experiments and plant trials. Conduct troubleshooting and technical improvement of existing products. Search, evaluate, develop and implement new products and chemistries in line with customer objectives and the strategy of the BL and PLs. Become and act as an expert in a specific area employed. Evaluate, test, analyze and qualify new raw materials for cost-savings, process improvements and sustainability aspects. Where appropriate, develop processes to produce intermediates, which replace raw materials. Develop NPI and Product transfer packages for the facilities supported, including specification setting, interacting with regulatory. Lead NPI project for new products and transfers independently within 4 sites globally. Direct interaction with customers (internal & external) and trade associations (e.g., AOCS) to foster innovation. Presentation of technology both inside and outside of the organization. Maintain the laboratory in a safe and professional manner. Make suggestions to improve the safety of the laboratory and personnel. Participate in PHAs and ensure recommendations/actions are implemented. Evaluate and implement digitalization tools in the daily work (e.g., lab). REQUIREMENTS Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 15 years' industry experience required. Project Management experience required. SharePoint and Power BI experience desired. Ability to think spatially to re-build and repair lab components. Must be comfortable working with highly hazardous materials. Must be comfortable with wearing proper PPE.
