If you want to influence millions of customers on their shopping journeys, we have a role for you. This team in advertising serves as the horizontal data foundation for various applications. We build extremely large-scale data sets, process them using distributed systems, and enrich them with intelligent insights. As a Senior engineer in the team, you will play a key role in collaborating with multiple engineering teams and cross-functional teams to understand the business needs and propose the most suitable engineering solutions. You will also lead in researching, designing, implementing, and reviewing the platform and products. Additionally, you will mentor and coach the team, ensure the best engineering practices are followed, and hold the team accountable.
About the team:
Walmart's Advertising Technology data team owns and drives the foundational data platform for targeting and measurement systems. The team is custodian of all the business data and metrics and the guarantor of their fidelity and completeness. The team charter is to provide interfaces and guidance for all aspects of advertising data.
We are a team of data engineers whose strengths are: (1) building scalable data pipelines, (2) exposure to machine learning techniques and data science, (3) making sense of broadly defined problems through data analysis.
What you'll do: Lead the discovery phase of large software engineering projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams to determine project strategy; interpreting strategy into sustainable architecture and solutions; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timelines; driving prototype development to ensure concept feasibility. Work on projects focused on bringing in data from different sources and making this data available in different forms to downstream teams. Identify opportunities at the engineering and product sides and influence leaders and engineers to solve high-impact problems. Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, Tech Leads, and other EMs to understand the data landscape and influence methodology choices. Partner across the Engineering organization to establish strategic plans and objectives to improve the mean time to detect and mean time to restore. Mentor junior engineers by providing direction regarding architecture and design; providing guidance regarding project issues or roadblocks; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes; ensuring stability and scalability of the platform. Conduct root-cause analysis of complex problems involving multiple parties, networks, hardware, and software that relate to scaling and performance. What you'll bring: 5+ years of experience in software development, ideally focusing on distributed applications, system integrations, and big data management. 3+ years of experience in building and managing large scale distributed, scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems. Proficient in Scala, Java, or Python, Spark, HQL, and SQL. Deep knowledge in Hadoop ecosystem, like HDFS, Hive, MapReduce, Presto, etc. Strong experience with near real-time stream processing (Micro-services, Spark, Flink, Storm, and Kafka Connect) at scale. Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Exceptional analytical-reasoning and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively. Preferred qualifications: Familiar with public cloud technologies in Google Cloud Platform, especially BigQuery, GCS, and Dataproc. Experience with ETL pipelines. Experience in the advertising domain (AdTech). Familiar with workflow management systems like Airflow or Oozie. Experience with enterprise monitoring and alerting solutions like Prometheus, Graphite, alerts manager, and Splunk. The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.
