As a Senior Software Engineer for Platform at Material Security, you'll build and own ambitious projects spanning our highest-scale systems. You'll be responsible for balancing the reliability, performance, and resource-consumption of Material's core platform services and subsystems.
ResponsibilitiesBuild a sophisticated and flexible attachment processing pipeline to detect malicious payloads.
Develop new capabilities for link crawling and phishing site detection, including fake login portals.
Partner with Material's AI/ML experts to integrate more and better models into the phishing detection platform, and to engineer the signals that power the same.
Take ownership of large engineering initiatives with a direct connection to top-line business growth.
Scale our Phishing Protection product infrastructure to process more messages, meet tighter latency requirements, and optimize for cost of goods sold (COGS).
What We're Looking ForTechnical Ability: Strong software engineering fundamentals, raw coding ability, and problem-solving ability are key. Ideal candidates are prolific but careful coders in at least one mainstream language and have the ability to easily pick up new ones (i.e. Typescript). They can quickly identify the best ways to tackle challenging problems while explaining their decisions to teammates.
Technical Maturity: Our engineering team punches above its weight because everyone can write very high-quality code without too much oversight. The foresight to understand what risks we should/should-not take is crucial to reliably ship production code.
Ownership: We love engineers who deeply care about the impact of their work and find satisfaction in a job well done. Strong ownership starts before the first line of code (is this the right approach?) and continues after the last commit is merged (now that we've shipped, how is this behaving in prod?).

Compensation at Material Security is determined by a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $161,500 to $254,100.
