SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Manager will be a Category Manager within the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (SS&P) department.
This individual will support the Category Lead and be a point of contact from the team for the categories they are assigned and will be responsible for operations of their category and vendor pool.
If applicable, this role may also include the administrative/HR management for direct reports (Sourcing Managers, Associate Manager, and Sourcing Associates).
SS&P Category Management and Sourcing team is responsible to manage strategic approach toprocurement and ensure informed sourcing decisions to overall optimizespend, maximize relationships, minimize risk & enable business objectives.
SS&P department manages outsourcing leveraging a category-based approach.
Categories are established based on consolidation of like-services and areas of spend spanning Exelixis enterprise from: Discovery, Development, General and Administrative, Information Technology, Commercial, etc.
For each category, there will be Category Manager(s) assigned which reports to the Category Lead.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Support and provide thought leadership to category strategy development, optimization and management working with SS&P leadership and the business units.
Understand business priorities and challenges by building trusted and collaborative stakeholder relationships, thus, ensuring successful sourcing strategies.
Identifyand recommend sourcing opportunities across the business.
Support or may lead vendor evaluation activities (RFIs and RFPs) and selection process including facilitation of vendor capability presentations, software demonstrations, bid defense meetings and vendor award notifications.
Contribute to process development and optimization.
Support or may lead vendor contracting process in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, including negotiation of scope of work, budgets, and payment schedules and out of scope management; PO initiation, revision (increases, decreases), and close-out; contract and budget lifecycle.
Negotiate contracts involving larger dollar amounts.
Identify, negotiate, and develop more complex and sophisticated pricing and contracting options, including annual pricing and rate cards.
Collaborate with Strategic Supplier Relationship team(s) or business as appropriate to effectively manage the cost, schedule and performance aspects of major contracts and subcontracts.
Support, or may act as SS&P lead on meetings with stakeholders and suppliers, especially in Supplier Relationship Management activities such as regularly scheduled Business Reviews.
Contribute to build, maintain, and grow business relationships with current and prospective vendors through honesty, integrity, and trust.
If applicable to category, may represent SS&P at Exelixis Project Team meetings.
Liaise and partner with Exelixis' Legal department and Business Owners to ensure vendor contract terms and conditions adequately address all business needs and requirements for services and protect Exelixis', SS&P's, and Exelixis' Business Owners' interests prior to contract execution.
Manage end-to-end SOW and associated contract development and execution workflow for low-risk contracts leveraging the Legal Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system.
Contribute to process development and optimization.
Liaise and collaborate with Exelixis' Legal department to enforce vendor contract terms and conditions.
Liaise and collaborate with SS&Ps Procurement Operations, FP&A, and other functional areas as needed to perform internal monthly vendor financial accruals, internal quarterly vendor financial forecasts, and internal quarterly vendor financial reporting.
Partner and collaborate with SS&P's Procurement Operations function where needed on internal vendor invoice query and payment process.
Partner with FP&A and Accounting to facilitate and support vendor accrual and forecasting process.
Support department initiatives and continuous improvement efforts and take greater leadership to develop and maintain SS&P business processes.
As applicable per designated category, maintain audit inspectionreadiness.
Represent SS&P at internal Team meetings.
Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May directly supervise 1-2 Manager/Associate level reports.
If has direct supervision responsibilities, includes hiring, scheduling, and assigning work, reviewing performance, and recommends salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.
Direct supervisory and management responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Department/Functional: Delegate work assignments; monitor workload capacity; monitor work deliverables; and monitor training needs.
Administrative/HR: Facilitate hiring, promotion, demotion, transfer, performance review, performance management, and performance calibration processes; provide merit, bonus, and equity recommendations to department head; facilitate career development plans; approve paid time off requests.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Education/Experience: BA/BS degree in related discipline and a minimum of eight years related experience; or MA/MS degree in related discipline and a minimum of six years related experience; or Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job: Education: Bachelor's degree in related discipline and nine (9) years of related experience; or, Master's degree in related discipline and seven (7) years of related experience; or, Doctoral degree in related discipline and two (2) years of related experience; or, Equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
Experience: Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry(ies) required.
Experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology R&D outsourcing, purchasing, supplier relationship management and/or procurement role(s) required.
Supervisory/management experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Must have strong, working knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry R&D outsourcing concepts, methodologies, standards, processes, operations, best practices.
Markets, services, risks and trends.
As applicable to designated categories of responsibility, experience should be from relevant background within pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry.
Must have strong, working knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry outsourcing financial processes and operations, including but not limited to budgeting, accruals, forecasting, financial analyses, financial reporting, capital expenditures, invoicing, payment terms, purchase requisitions/purchase orders, importation/exportation fees, taxes, currency exchange rates, and inflation.
Must have working knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry R&D contracts, including but not limited to legal terms and conditions (e.g., legal decisions vs. business decisions) and contract exhibits (e.g., scopes of work, budgets, payment schedules, quality agreements, data privacy addendums).
Must have working knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry regulations as applicable to category (e.g., FDA, MHRA, EMA, ICH GCP) and financial regulations (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley Act, GAAP).
Thorough knowledge and proven success in negotiation, change management, and stakeholder collaboration.
Must be a self-starter, fast learner, solid collaborator, and solid team player with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must have solid strategic thinking, analytical, negotiation, financial, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, change management, and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing business plans and priorities.
Must have solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including confidence and ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications and facilitate presentations to Exelixis' and vendors' individual contributors, functional managers, department heads, and senior executives.

Must have solid computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as ability to quickly learn new software systems.
Experience with Ariba, Agiloft or similar contract lifecycle management system, Jira Service Management preferred.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S.

The base pay range for this positionis $138,000 - $196,500 annually.
The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location.
