Arup is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Resilience Planner to join our dynamic team of planners and engineers in our San Francisco office. As an integral member within our Climate and Sustainability Services and Cities Planning and Design portfolio, you will lead the charge in integrating cutting-edge climate adaptation and resilience strategies into transportation planning initiatives.

You will play a pivotal role in enhancing the resilience of transportation infrastructure across the western United States, embedding equity in this work and collaborating closely with key clients and stakeholders to navigate complex challenges and ensure the long-term sustainability of our region's transportation systems.

Responsibilities:

1. Climate Resilience Integration: Lead efforts to incorporate climate resilience considerations into transportation planning projects, including vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, and development of adaptation strategies.

2. Project Management: Oversee the execution of complex, multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and quality assurance.

3. Business Development: Pursue new business opportunities, develop proposals, and participate in presentations to secure projects and expand Arup's footprint in the transportation resilience sector; cultivate and maintain strong client relationships.

4. Stakeholder and Public Engagement: Collaborate closely with key stakeholders and participate in public meetings, fostering partnerships and gathering input for resilience planning initiatives.

5. Equity Expertise: Guide the integration of equity principles into all transportation resilience planning efforts, addressing the needs and impacts on underserved and vulnerable communities.

6. Policy and Regulatory Alignment: Closely track local, state, and federal policies related to climate change adaptation, transportation planning, and environmental regulations, ensuring project alignment with regulatory requirements.

7. Technical Specialization: Apply advanced knowledge of transportation planning methodologies and tools to assess climate-related risks to transportation infrastructure, identify adaptation options, and optimize resilience measures.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

2. Minimum of 8 years of experience of which 5 years of experience in transportation planning, with a focus on climate change adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.

3. In-depth understanding of California's transportation landscape, including familiarity with key transit agencies, local policies, and regional planning initiatives; experience working with key agencies such as MTC, BART, Caltrans, etc.

4. Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects, pursuing new business opportunities, and maintaining strong client relationships.

5. Experience in developing or augmenting climate resilience guidelines for new and existing infrastructure or developing adaptation strategies with implementation plans for transportation infrastructure

6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, facilitate workshops, and present technical information to non-technical audiences.

7. Professional certifications (e.g., AICP, PE) and memberships in relevant professional organizations are a plus.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $120,000 to $146,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
