Job Description Overall Purpose and Objective of Position: As directed by the plant superintendents, this position is responsible for supervising a shift of production staff at a soybean Crushing, Biodiesel, Glycerin, Lecithin and Glycerin Packaging plants. The primary function is to ensure quality products are produced in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with established production schedules.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions Accountable for the production, safety and quality of the shift team.Helps plan the daily activities of production staff and issues work assignments accordingly.Maintains proper coverage by managing production staffing schedules.Coordinates production start-ups, shutdowns and changeovers.Responds to production issues or alarms and leads investigations as necessary.Assures that production employees work safely and follow established safety procedures.Ensures established environmental procedures are followed and recordkeeping requirements are met.Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies and procedures applicable to area of responsibility.Ensures employees receive required training for area, jobs, and tasks prior to assigning work.Reports unsafe working conditions to management and communicates potential hazards to affected employees.Reports all incidents to management and conducts incident investigation as soon as practicable; no later than 24 hours from time of incident.Additional Responsibilities Collects shift productivity information and records it in the plant's data management system.Serves as the liaison between the plant superintendents and the production staff.Reports any manufacturing equipment issues to maintenance staff.Notifies plant superintendents of potential safety hazards and operational inconsistencies.Creates a productive, safe and efficient shift culture through positive leadership.Conducts shift safety meetings and delivers job-related training to production staff.Investigates and prepares reports for safety and environmental accidents and near-misses.Coaches staff on the Company's performance expectations and provides ongoing performance feedback.Assists with production functions as necessary.Equipment Used Typical office equipment: PC, telephone, radios, fax machine, calculator, scanner, and copier.Production machinery and operating equipment.Occupational health and safety testing equipment (e.g., air monitors) in compliance with OSHA regulations.Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.Working Conditions Continuous 24/7 plant operation with 12 Hour Straight Shift (Nights).Regular exposure to various temperatures, gases, vapors, dust, and flammable liquids.Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required.Regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing.Employee Supervision This position directs the work of approximately eight or more production employees.Decision Making/Accountability Ensures safe and efficient operation of the plant during assigned shift.Communicates job expectations to production employees and holds them accountable.Investigates and resolves plant issues that may arise during shift.Experience Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Four years of production/processing experience in an industrial setting, with two years in a supervisory/leadership role.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands):
Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software.Ability to operate machinery and computer systems while maintaining compliance with regulatory safety requirements.Ability to climb stairs and ladders, manage confined space entry, and move materials of 50 pounds or more.Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.Preferred qualifications: Well organized, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a team environment.What We Offer: A dynamic and stimulating international environment with outstanding career development opportunities.
