Job Summary: Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the project management and business services fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer's mission.
AIS is seekinga Jr to Mid-level Site Ops/AES Architect to directly support our NREL customer. The successful candidate will Provide Architectural services for NREL including the preparation of design and technical solutions for a variety of project types and sizes, review of developed construction documents, investigation of existing conditions, and assisting in the development of building and campus standards. The Architect position helps cover architecture and space planning, including leased facilities, for NREL's campuses.
The successful candidate requires a knowledge of building materials, constructability, building systems, building codes, and must possess strong problem solving and technical skills. The successful candidate should be able to perform duties with general direction and be able to work independently and collaboratively toward design and technical solutions. The successful candidate needs to have good oral and written communication skills to collaborate with diverse staff including engineering, maintenance, research operations, and others.
Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory located in Golden, CO. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.
Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Job duration is projected to be a 12-month period of performance with a hybrid work schedule requiring regular on-site work as determined by NREL with the opportunity for some approved remote work.
Responsibilities Job Responsibilities: Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Reviews and coordinates in-house and outsourced design projects by reviewing and developing. Statement of Works, Construction Drawings and Specifications. Reviews and provides design and technical solutions for a variety of project types and sizes at NREL campuses and leased facilities based upon NREL standards, user requirements, IBC and NFPA codes. Assists with construction administration of fast-track construction projects. Assist with estimating project costs to help establish reasonable baseline budgets and schedules including contingencies. Assists with investigating, creating, and documenting NREL standards and guidelines for material finishes, life safety, campus master planning, buildings, and workspaces. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and stakeholders. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
B.S. degree in Architecture with 5-years' relevant experience, or M.S. degree in Architecture with 3-years' relevant experience. Knowledge and coordination of building systems including electrical, mechanical, fire safety, and sustainability. Ability to analyze existing project conditions, costs of similar past projects, and research project materials as needed. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite. Proactive, passionate, well-organized, and detail oriented. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and self-motivated attitude. Preferred Qualifications: Previous laboratory design and/or remodel experience. Experience with BIM/REVIT. Special Requirements: Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position. This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen. Salary Range: $110,000 to $125,000 annually – The salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, work experience, and their ability to meet the known requirements of the position as determined at the time of hire. Job location will also be a factor in determining the salary offered.
