Summary of Position
The Slide/Block Laboratory Aide position provides support to client services, Pathology Assistants, and the pathologist staff.
The Slide/Block Lab Aide is responsible for following all standards, policies, and procedures of Inform Diagnostics.
Key Job Elements Assures that all safety, quality control measures, and policies and procedures are followed.
Files blocks and slides in numerical order.
Adheres to attendance and punctuality standards.
Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
Qualifications Knowledge/Experience High School diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor of Science in biology or related field is preferred.
Prior experience in the medical field is preferred.
Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to file items in numerical order.
Ability to send out specimens to various reference testing laboratories.
Ability to work with client services to resolve patient and client issues.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, general working knowledge of Internet for business use, and skilled in operating office equipment such as fax machines and copiers.
Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
Lab Specific Qualifications Visual acuity (including color discrimination) and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.
Ability to tolerate extensive periods seated and/or standing.
Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
May have exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents; handle live human specimens, tissues, and bodily fluid.
