JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Horticulture equipment and vehicle parts using hand tools and power tools. Diagnoses Horticulture equipment failures for long-term corrective action that can /may involve investigative and research techniques.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnose equipment failures and provide immediate and long-term corrective action. Involves researching defective mechanically- controlled items/parts, instructional information to complete the repair process when needed. This entails logical and extensive troubleshooting and referring to technical manuals.
Responsible for preventive maintenance of all 2-cycle equipment according to manufacturer's factory specifications. As well as checking with Leads on a daily basis to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and addressing any concerns they have in a timely manner.
Performs administrative functions of documentation and inventory of all 2-cycle equipment. Provides daily reports, orders and communication with Horticulture management and staff.
Maintain an inventory of the most commonly used parts and order replacements when necessary from appropriate vendor; ensuring adherence to correct purchasing policies. Communication with manufacturer or equipment supplier to ensure up to date pricing along with the correct part number and description.
Support all Horticulture staff if needed in the field or during project work.
Maintain shop cleanliness daily.
Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SCOPE:
Perform specific detailed maintenance / repair on all 2-cycle hand held equipment, Z-turn riding lawn mowers, walk behind lawn mowers, electric pumps, motors, turbine pull-behind blowers, kerosene heaters and any other miscellaneous Horticulture equipment. In addition, the ability to order parts in relationship with factory guidelines and warranty. Moreover, to stock essential parts and maintain a steady inventory for equipment replacement and repair. In addition, the ability to order parts in relationship with factory guidelines and warranty. Provide written documentation on daily activities, including inspections of equipment and inventory, including ordering and stocking of additional parts.
EDUCATION:
High school degree or GED is Required.
Technical school is Required.
Associate's degree is Preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
5 - 10 years in small engine mechanics and repair.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Mechanics Certification Required
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Horticulture background preferred.
