POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Performance Engineer will be responsible for running energy performance forecasts, analyses and verification for hundreds of megawatts of PV and ESS development projects and operating facilities. S/he will support EPC project startup and commissioning processes to achieve Substantial Completion on projects up to 1 GW, and will provide technical support for performance verification, plant capacity testing, and energy performance guarantees. In addition, the successful candidate will use performance data and field experience from the aforementioned responsibilities to assist in the improvement of systems, tools, and processes. Occasional travel to project sites throughout North America will be required. Remote working from a location close to a major airport will be considered.
\n RESPONSIBILITIESPerform energy production forecasting and analysis activities for all development projects and operating facilities and support technical diligence on site selection and project acquisitions.Assist in the implementation of performance engineering and optimization of system designs for PV and ESS projects, to achieve targets for production, generating capacity, capital cost, financial returns, etc. Evaluate energy input assessments, shading analysis, soiling estimation, terrain impacts, and output forecast methods, reports, and models. Perform analyses to maximize forecast and actual production and enhance project value.Assist in the process of reviewing performance testing and commissioning protocols, data, analysis, calculations, and results.Consolidate energy production model inputs and analysis in support of performance-related aspects of power purchase agreements, EPC contracts, interconnection agreements, equipment warranties, etc.Contribute to the development of technical team capability, technology roadmap, software tools, project and engineering management processes, etc.Collaborate with colleagues, consultants, and contractors, and facilitate virtual and in-person meetings, to achieve efficient use of resources, meet deadlines for deliverables, minimize delays, avoid crises, and resolve conflicts.Support the ongoing search for improved system performance by contributing to evaluations of new techniques, technologies, systems, and components, and being a resource regarding emerging best practices, products, technologies, and techniques in the clean energy industry. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSBS Electrical Engineering or Atmospheric Physics, or closely related numerate discipline, with at least three years of relevant experience.An advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline is strongly preferred and may count towards experience requirements. Experience with energy resource data analysis and PVSYST production modeling software. Familiarity with Plant Predict, SAM, Helioscope, and/or Python is an advantage.Previous exposure to one or more of: PV module manufacturing quality assurance and testing; renewable energy project development; power generation; solar plant performance and/ore operations, testing and troubleshooting of inverters or generators. Polished interpersonal, technical writing, and presentation skills. Proficient computer skills using MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook. Detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to manage and prioritize concurrent tasks, and to work effectively in a collaborative virtual environment.Ability and willingness to travel (up to 20%) to project sites (often in remote locations), to lead or participate in meetings or seminars, and when necessary to work overtime on short.
