Job Description: Special Education Teacher Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our educational team in Rhode Island. The successful candidate will work with students with diverse learning needs, developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and implementing adaptive instructional methods to support each students academic and social development. The teacher will collaborate with parents, school staff, and support services to create a positive, inclusive classroom environment. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement IEPs tailored to the unique needs of each student. Provide differentiated instruction that adapts curriculum to fit various learning styles and capabilities. Assess students progress regularly and modify teaching methods and goals as needed. Foster an inclusive environment by collaborating with general education teachers and support staff. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for each student, including progress notes and assessments. Communicate effectively with families to ensure they are informed and engaged in their childs educational experience. Qualifications Education : Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field (Masters preferred). Licensure : Rhode Island Teacher Certification with a Special Education endorsement through the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE). Certification requires passing the Praxis exams specific to Special Education and meeting the Basic Skills Test requirements set by RIDE. Endorsements may include specializations like Mild/Moderate Disabilities or Severe/Profound Disabilities, depending on the student population served. Experience : Prior experience in a special education setting is preferred, especially within an inclusive or self-contained classroom. Preferred Skills Knowledge of Rhode Island special education laws and IEP processes. Familiarity with assistive technologies and adaptive tools. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple student goals and documentation requirements. Proficiency in using positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) in the classroom. Work Schedule This full-time position aligns with the academic calendar and requires attendance at school functions, meetings, and professional development as scheduled. Physical Requirements Ability to assist students with physical or mobility needs. Willingness to engage in training for specific instructional methods and physical intervention techniques if required.
