Overview: The Specialist - Environmental position will be responsible for providing comprehensive environmental support, primarily water and waste media compliance, to the St. James Facility. In this position, the Specialist will work extensively with Clean Water Act compliance. Additionally the Specialist will be responsible for regulatory interpretation; developing and implementing regulatory guidance plans; generating required reports; and acting as the facility contact with various agencies, including the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) & U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
\n Primary Responsibilities:Provide interpretation and clarification on environmental regulations and requirements.Provide guidance for compliance with the Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (LPDES) Permit.Provide guidance for groundwater protection and monitoring program.Provide training to personnel on state and federal regulatory issues.Creating and updating St. James waste profiles.Coordinate waste shipments including signing waste manifest.Assemble data for environmental compliance reports and assure that reports are submitted in a timely manner.Conduct environmental inspection/audits to ensure Plant's compliance with state and federal regulations.Maintain strong rapport with state and local regulators.Negotiate with local regulators on compliance testing, inspections, modifications, etc.Represent the facility during regulatory agency inspections.Serve as environmental consultant for various expense and capital projects.Provide environmental coverage during maintenance turnarounds and Plant outages.Develop guidance documents as instruction for compliancePerform other duties as assigned or needed. Job Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in science or related field and 3 years direct environmental experience.Working knowledge with water and waste media regulations.Expertise in understanding, interpreting, and communicating complicated environmental laws and regulations to the Operations, Technical and Maintenance Departments.Ability to solve unique and complex problems, considering both long and short term impacts dealing with environmental issues.Demonstrated teamwork skills: shares credit when appropriate, helps others as needed, appropriately balances personal effort and team effort.Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and orally. Desired Skills:Familiar with LPDES water PermittingFamiliar with Non-Hazardous and Hazardous Waste Handling requirements.
