Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Along with the perinatal quadrumvirate, this postholder is responsible for the delivery of the maternity unit culture, vision, and strategy.
This should include a focus on safe, personalised care for all women, birthing people and families who use the service.

The post holder should display visible, compassionate leadership, an ability to work collaboratively across the whole MDT, and create psychological safety in the team through being an excellent listener and communicator.

The individual should have the ability to reflect and take feedback (both personal and regarding the service) and strive for continuous improvement.
This includes an ability to tackle poor behaviours and have difficult conversations.

They are also accountable for the maternity assurance / external reporting responsibilities and relationships (see key stakeholders, below) including delivery of MIS, SBLCB, and PMRT.

Internally, they are responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the maternity service including safe medical staffing, and escalation.

It is expected they oversee the quality and safety of the service and help to promote a just, restorative, learning culture, through their links with both external stakeholders (eg NHSRes, MNSI) and through patient feedback mechanisms including oversight of governance / complaints.

These individuals also usually undertake the obstetric legal work required by the department including reviewing claims / preparing for inquests / representing the trust externally.

Job responsibilities Key Result Areas Lead and where necessary unify Teams: Direct and guide staff in specialty teams to perform well in the role, employing management styles and methods which are tailored to the individual, the team and specific situation.
Be willing to alter their job plan to work on both sides of the county if so desired by the Division. Develop individuals and teams: Ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to enable regular feedback on performance, holding medical staff to account for job performance: this to include job planning, activity levels and meeting both national and local quality targets. Communication: Demonstrate and enable effective communication with colleagues.

Service improvement: Working with the Trust Quality Academy to assist in the establishment of a culture of, and effective processes to achieve, continuous improvement.
Through this approach contribute towards the highest quality and efficiency of service with appropriate involvement from patients and the public. Setting Direction: Stand back from day-to-day activities: concentrate on major issues and long-term policy.
Demonstrate awareness of the national and local context: include consideration of the constraints, trust pressures and priorities and the impact of specialty decisions on other services.
Working with other stakeholders (above), generate innovative solutions and consensus decision-making that deliver a sensible delivery plan. Continually Improving Services: Gather and analyse performance data.
Involve the team in service improvement decisions and processes, fostering a culture of continuous innovation and improvement.
Challenge the way things are done currently where necessary.

Manage financial, staffing and clinical resources effectively.
Take appropriate action to rectify performance problems and where medical staff are not compliant.
