Type: Unpaid Internship (FOR ACADEMIC CREDIT ONLY) Schedule: Part-time, unpaid ten-week position starting on Monday, January 13, 2025 and ending on Friday, March 21, 2025

Notes on Schedule: Available work schedule Wednesdays-Sundays, 9am-5pm- flexible to meet student's needs

Location: Ohio History Center- Main Museum Floor

Reports to: Manager, Ohio History Center Programs

About Ohio History Connection:

The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories.
Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history.
This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.


Summary:

The Ohio History Center Programs Department provides engaging, informative and dynamic interpretation of Ohio's history with a visitor-centered focus.
Interns will gain experience speaking with visitors on a variety of topics and will work with museum staff on research, implementation, and evaluation of programming.
Interns will spend roughly 50% of their time interpreting and 50% of their time working with staff, developing additional skills, and shadowing other departments.


Essential Functions: Must be able to communicate effectively with visitors of diverse ages and backgrounds Comfortable moving throughout museum spaces and interacting with guests.
Must develop a capstone project that aligns with Ohio History's goals and academic program's goals Must be willing to try new approaches to challenges and work collaboratively with staff, other interns, and volunteers Required Education, Skills, Experience: Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate from an academic program (within one year) Majors in History, Education, Theater, Museum Studies, Anthropology Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media Required Competencies: Works well both independently and with and in support of colleagues to complete work.
Demonstrates a potential to communicate well in written and verbal communications, including informal mediums like email and meetings Able to adapt to changing environments/circumstances and willingness to be flexible Able to speak confidently to visitors and provide excellent customer service Other Requirements: Must complete a background check and internship onboarding paperwork Must create and account, log internships hours and sign up for internship shifts via Must attend the spring intern welcome day and present at the spring internship summit Education and Experience Outcomes: Student will have a better understanding of the complex operations required to create and implement effective programming Student will develop public speaking skills through daily interpretation and collaboration with colleagues Student will further develop time management and project management skills through research, personal scheduling, and capstone project Application Instructions
