**Position Overview**
The Senior Buyer is responsible for handling all of the purchasing activities related to a specific assigned commodity while beginning to contribute and participate in a leadership role in projects/activities. This position is responsible for negotiating price and delivery and placement of orders.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
* Fully recognize and develop understanding of the total procurement picture for all purchased goods and services.
* Authorized to sign and approve all purchase orders placed with a value of up to $10,000.00, as consistent with Hubbell signing authority matrix.
* Required to develop process improvements, simplify workflows, refine paperwork practices, and resolve problems on his or her own initiative. Such individual actions shall to be reviewed and implemented through the Senior Buyer's Immediate Supervisor.
* Identify sources of supply, and seek out the lowest total cost alternatives and develop solid working relationships with the suppliers.
* Insure an uninterrupted supply of materials on a short lead-time basis while satisfying all quality criteria.
Required to:
* Conduct regular competitive quotation and analysis exercises.
* Negotiate in earnest and directly with suppliers.
* Provide detailed reporting on market conditions to management.
* SAP preferred.
* Work closely with other functional areas to pursue alternative products solutions, which will reduce our costs.
* Will be held individually responsible for results on cost, quality, and delivery performance of assigned suppliers.
* Work with Commodity Manager in developing long-term supply strategies that will meet the company's operational objectives.
* Handle various commodities, and becoming fully familiar with multiple commodities to be successful in any commodity assignment.
* Assume a leading role within the department for coordination and resolution of vendor problems with assigned value limitations.
* Expand their roles with Operations Personnel to fully communicate and resolve procurement problems.
* Assume an active role in department development of new sources and market communications.
Assume a leadership role in many department activities including:
* Department Meetings
* Cost Reduction/Control Activities
* Vendor Negotiations
* Operation Communications
* Business Travel
* Project Assignments
* Commodity Development
* Report Documentation
* As well as all other individual Purchasing Activities.
* Use knowledge to assist with the development of Purchasing peers and subordinates.
* Provide coverage for other team members during travel and vacation periods.
**Skills and Experience**
* Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university
* 7+ years related experience and/or training in procurement
