Codexis, a biotechnology company based in Redwood City, CA, is looking to hire a Sr. Payroll Accountant.
Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. Codexis enzymes solve for real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing and nucleic acid synthesis. The Company is currently developing its proprietary ECO Synthesis platform to enable the scaled manufacture of RNAi therapeutics through an enzymatic route. Codexis enzymes can drive improvements, such as higher yields, reduced energy usage and waste generation, improve efficiency in manufacturing and greater sensitivity in genomic and diagnostic applications.

About the Opportunity:
The Sr. Payroll Accountant is a part of the Accounting department and responsible for overseeing and directing payroll procedures, ensuring compliance with laws and tax obligations, and maintaining accurate payroll records. As well as managing and ensuring that payroll goes out in timely manner. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication, allowing them to work with company employees and different departments to resolve payroll conflicts and initiate new procedures. This role is an employee-facing role which will require excellent organizational and leadership skills. Expert knowledge of payroll regulations and software, including Excel, and will be based in Redwood City as a Hybrid role.

Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Oversee and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the biweekly and off-cycle payrolls and produces related payroll reports. Reviews edit reports and balancing reports. Ensures direct deposits, paychecks, and bank files are complete and accurate. Prepares all payroll related journal entries.
Ownership of balancing the quarter and year-end payroll records for accuracy and completeness.
Customer (employee) facing; responding to payroll inquiries and resolving discrepancies as required.
Partner with HR to ensure communication and processes are aligned and enhanced when possible.
Partner with Paylocity administrator to update system and communicate with employees.
Partner with our benefits team to ensure various deposits are done on time (401k, FSA, etc.).
Processing monthly international payroll using payroll vendors.
Consistently review work for process improvement.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Payroll operations.
Must be able to work independently to plan and prioritize own workload while maintaining exceptional accuracy within strict deadlines.
Expert knowledge of the payroll functions and processes.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel, and Outlook skills, including experience with VLookup, Pivot Tables, Functions, etc.
Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:
Experience in working in SOX environment.
Extensive knowledge of Paylocity and Time & Labor systems.
CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated hourly rate for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $44.50 to $60.00/hour. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states .
