Development of requirements, test procedures and reportsVehicle preparation and instrumentationSupport testing efforts in the laboratory or the fieldCollecting and analyzing data using serial data, eDAQ and direct measurementsEnsuring all Regulatory and Emissions requirements are metIn house and supplier software is developed and tested in a Bench environment prior to releaseFinite Element Analysis and simulationABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a Sr. Product Validation engineer who will deliver new and current product programs on time and with the highest level of reliability and quality. Acting as the voice of validation to the program teams, the Sr. Product Validation Engineer's role is dynamic and vital to GILLIG's growth and future product development. This individual will be guided by technical requirements leading the planning and execution of the vehicle ADV plan against program timelines. This role reports directly to the Manager of Validation Engineering at the Livermore, CA headquarters.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL Lead the validation planning and ADV execution for New and Carryover Vehicle ProgramsCreate comprehensive validation plans and test methods or simulations that will validate system capabilities before vehicle integration, all within budget and scheduling constraints of the programLead the validation reporting efforts for program milestone gating eventsSpearhead workgroup activities by coordinating and documenting requirements, design verification and validation with component, subsystem, system suppliers or external testing resources/facilities to support overall program validation planSupport the regulatory compliance process by leading the effort to ensure all test reports, supplier and engineering documentation is complete, submitted and reviewed for approval by the regulatory teamsPerform testing, report results and collaborate with related design engineering teams to identify root causes of non-conformance and provide while recommending improvements in specifications and opportunities for refinement, such as performance, cost, and weight reductionSupport workgroup activities to develop and deploy engineering standards to define and confirm compliance with vehicle and system level requirements for new models, including complete traceability between requirements, test results and test reportsUtilize program targets, system requirements and various control documents to develop and release comprehensive test plans, and other documentation in support of design and development activitiesCollaborate with engineering teams to understand instrumentation requirements; develop and deploy acquisition strategies and analysis methodologies for effective, timely testing that meets project requirementsWork productively with engineers, designers, technicians, project managers and other functions to meet project deliverable timelinesWork independently with minimal supervision from direct manager and act as the validation technical resource when testing at external facilitiesBASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Bachelor Science Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or other Engineering discipline preferred. Master's degree in an engineering discipline a plusMinimum of 7 years of progressive product engineering experienceDemonstrated technical responsibility in automotive, on/off highway or transportation equipment. Heavy-duty industry a plusProven experience with any or all the following: ICE, electrified powertrains, collision avoidance and autonomous vehicle technology, chassis/body structures, steering/suspension systems, air brake systems and vehicle dynamics attributesDemonstrated experience with component, system, and vehicle level testing, as well as hardware and/or software validation and regulatory processesEstablished knowledge of FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, SAE HD vehicle standards, NFPASolid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking, collecting and researching data, using intuition and experience to complement data.Experience with developing and testing requirements, familiarity of validation and verification strategies, managing dotted lined teams and facilitating the successful completion of testing and the verification of compliance activitiesSolid foundation in systems or product design and developmentSolid written and verbal communication skillsAbility to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive electrical and pneumatic systemsWORK ENVIRONMENT Ability to lift 25 lbs.Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, and walk, and occasionally kneel or squatFast paced work environmentEXPECTED COMPENSATION $75,000 - $275,000 /annual salary + premium benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
