Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
Two (2) years of full-time, current financial accounting experience, including reconciliations, financial analysis and/or various report preparation.Experience with Microsoft Excel or a similar tool to include but not limited to V-Lookup, Pivot Tables, Macros.
Preferred Qualifications:Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Accounting or a Certified Public Accountant License.
Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Query tool experience.
Experience with general ledger programs.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financial module.
Brief Description of Duties:The Staff Accountant supports the Stony Brook Foundations' mission by working across all phases of corporate accounting and finance, including but not limited to: reconciliations, cash management, analysis and report preparation.
The primary responsibilities include performing daily and monthly bank reconciliations, managing cash flow, and ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions.
The ideal candidate will maintain the integrity of financial records by identifying discrepancies, investigating variances, and working with internal departments to resolve issues.
Additional duties may include assisting with month-end close processes, cash forecasting, and supporting audit requests.
They will work with Senior Accountants and advise internal and external stakeholders to support Stony Brook Foundation's goals.
•Perform accounting functions and collaborate with senior accountants on reconciliations, cash management, analysis and report preparation.
Perform accounting functions including reconciliation of general ledger and sub-ledgers transactions and posting.
•Review and assist the work of the associate accountants.
•Reconcile transactions on a daily, monthly and annual basis.
•Resolves account and business-related problems, discrepancies and follows up with departments and related parties.
•Other duties or projects as assigned.
