Details of the offer

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we're all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?
Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating new technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. Being on the EVDD team means building the future as Ford's center of innovation and growth through electric and connected vehicles and services.
As a Battery Algorithms and Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for developing battery state estimation and control algorithms for next-generation battery management systems. Your work will be deployed on both embedded and cloud-based targets. Join a team of knowledgeable and passionate engineers striving to build robust and safety-rated systems to solve the most relevant problems in battery and energy management.
What you'll be able to do:
Design, develop, and validate various BMS control and state estimation algorithms including SOC, SOH, SOT, SOE, Power Prediction, and Fast Charge Controls.
Develop battery models using electrical and physics-based modeling approaches.
Document and maintain algorithm requirements & specifications.
Validate algorithm function and performance through MIL/SIL/HIL testing.
Develop high-quality firmware for battery management systems. Firmware will be enabled to support continuous improvements and optimizations for high-volume applications through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Collaborate with platform software, testing, and cloud analytics teams to implement and refine algorithms, and integrate feedback from field and lab data.
Support battery pack and vehicle integration efforts.
Support BMS hardware design and component selection.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts to identify and resolve algorithm-related issues and implement corrective actions to improve system performance and reliability.
Stay current with industry and research advancements in battery science, translating cutting-edge research into BMS functionality enhancements.

The minimum requirements we seek:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years developing BMS algorithms for automotive or mission-critical systems
Strong knowledge of lithium-ion battery cell (LFP, NCA, and NMC) and pack design technologies.
Experience developing control algorithms in embedded C.
Experience modeling lithium-ion batteries with equivalent-circuit and physics-based methods.
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and similar tools for battery equivalent-circuit and physics-based modeling.
Strong knowledge of battery cell testing techniques including GITT, HPPC, and EIS.
Theoretical expertise in probability and statistics.

Preferred Requirements:
Solid theoretical foundation in adaptive filtering, digital signal processing, and control theory including classical, state-space, optimal, and digital controls.
Hands-on experience in defining, formulating, and implementing machine learning problems for both offline and online BMS applications.
Understanding of real-time systems and common microcontroller architectures & peripherals.
Familiarity with common electronic components and comfort reading circuit design schematics & data sheets, contributing to BMS hardware design discussions.
Strong knowledge of battery cell testing techniques including GITT, HPPC, and EIS. Experience using git or similar version control system.
Familiarity with automotive safety standards (e.g. ISO26262) and how they apply to hardware and software.
Ability to work independently on technical tasks, effective troubleshooting and problem-solving with minimal supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication, and teamwork skills.
A systems approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.

What you'll receive in return:
As part of the Ford family, you'll enjoy excellent compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous PTO, retirement, savings and stock investment plans, incentive compensation and much more. You'll also experience exciting opportunities for professional and personal growth and recognition.
If you have what it takes to help us redefine the future of mobility, we would love to have you join us.
