What You’ll Do

As a Principal RF Engineer on the Video Products R&D team, you will architect and lead development of diverse wireless connectivity solutions for next generation Body Worn Cameras and other Video products. Whether it be integration of Wi-Fi+BT combo modules or detailed design of cellular chip-down circuitry from PCB to antenna port, your expert knowledge of LTE, 5G, Wifi, Bluetooth and GNSS circuits and systems will be applied to rigorous hands-on design, development, and testing of cutting-edge video products that are critical solutions for Law Enforcement and other customers.

What You Bring

Reports to:Sr. Manager, Electrical Engineering 

Skills Required

BS in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related field
14+ years RF design experience
10+ years designing and optimizing RF solutions for mass-produced battery-powered handheld, mobile, and/or wearable embedded systems. (e.g., cell phones, action cameras)
5+ years designing chip-down cellular solutions (LTE, 5G, CAT4 and above)
Proven wireless design leadership that has positively influenced the course and outcomes of RF design from concept to manufacturing
Subject Matter Expert: Up to date technical knowledge of wireless communication technologies, wireless technology trends, applications, and practical implementations pertaining to portable products and beyond.
Demonstrated expertise in wireless architecture, RF subsystems design, and RF circuit design for Cellular, multi-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and other wireless connectivity implementations
Robust end to end ownership of wireless design solutions (Concept to Mass Production)
Strong understanding of design challenges and tradeoffs when implementing multiple RF transceivers in complex, high-density, wearable or mobile electronics products (e.g., RF, Electrical, Mechanical)
Expertise with selection and integration of chip-down and module based RF transceiver solutions and supporting circuitry (filters, power amplifiers, diplexers, RF switches, and passives, etc)
Strong hands-on knowledge of RF measurement equipment, measurement techniques, and evaluation criteria necessary to ensure robust and reliable wireless design.
Extensive experience with RF circuit and system characterization, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization
Wide breadth of experience with successful RF debug and receiver de-sense mitigation techniques.
Schematic design proficiency using Cadence/OrCAD tools
Proficiency directing layout for RF subsystems, performing detailed layout inspections, and issuing design recommendations
Working understanding of antenna theory, structures, selection, and performance requirements
Familiarity with industry standards and regional regulatory requirements related to RF design and certification (e.g., 3GPP, PTCRB, GCF, FCC, ETSI)
Understanding of mobile network carrier requirements and related device approval processes
Experience collaborating within global cross-functional engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers
Effective communication and strong presentation skills

Skills Preferred

Advanced degree in engineering
PCB, printed, or metal antenna design experience
RF simulation and analysis experience

Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 130,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 250,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
