Daily and monthly responsibilities - What your days and weeks will include.
State Income Tax Compliance
Responsible for the preparation, review, and processing of the annual state income tax filings (for insurance and non-insurance entities) and associated compliance in coordination with our outsourcing partnersPrimary role on state and local tax audits and notices from state related to state income taxEnsure accuracy of and compliance with tax calendar and internal controlsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of state tax developmentsProvide information and support to business areasAdvise on non-routine transactions impacting state filings, including acquisitions and dispositionsPrepare, review and approve journal entriesPrepare, review and approve General Ledger ReconciliationsAssist with state legislative and regulatory initiativesDevelop a strong working relationship with internal and external clients, including vendor relationships
Non-Income Tax Compliance
Guaranty Fund compliancePreparation / Review of Annual State Premium Tax ReturnsAssistance with issues related to Property Tax and Sales & Use Tax in coordination with our outsourcing partners The Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field8+ years of Corporate Income Tax and/or Accounting experience4+ years State and Local Income Tax experience The Ideal Qualifications CPA or MST highly desirableStrong computer skills, including tax compliance software (Corptax), GL systems (SAP) and research software (CCH)10+ years of Corporate Income Tax and/or Accounting experience5+ years state and local income tax experienceWorking knowledge and experience related to insurance premium tax a plusWorking knowledge and experience related to sales and use tax and/or property tax a plusStrong analytical skillsStrong time and project management skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to identify issues and recommend effective solutionsStrong interpersonal skillsExperience in the insurance industry preferred What to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team Regular meetings with the Corporate Tax teamFocused one-on-one meetings with your managerNetworking opportunities including access to Asian, Hispanic/Latinx, African American, women, LGBTQ, Veteran and disability-focused Business Resource GroupsAccess to learning content on Degreed and other informational platformsYour ethics and integrity will be valued by a company with a strong and stable ethical business with industry leading pay and benefits
