Position Description The overall responsibilities of Steel Fab Yard include: May operate Ironworker, Automatic and Manual Bandsaw, Robotic Arc Welder (WIN only), Stud Welding Machine and Gun, Overhead Crane, Shear Line Machine, Automatic and Manual Bender, Rebar Threader, paint finish on completed assemblies or drive embeds to galvanizers.
Stock rebar, steel, and stud racks by using overhead crane or forklift as necessary.
Shear flat bar, angles, structural tubes, rounds and channels per specifications for production.
Locate correct sized studs, measure and mark steel for stud shooting with gun, mark steel with plate and job number.
Cut and weld rebar per specifications on daily cut list using automatic bender and shear.
(as applicable) Secure materials for robotic jigs, begin welding program, inspect welds, remove and mark plates.
Place rebar in designated racks for delivery manually per "take off list" and coordinate product delivery with forklift drivers.
Apply correct welding practices and identify basic welding symbols.
(as applicable) Ensure safe storage and proper handling of welding gasses.
Perform daily pre-operation checklists as required, record steel and stud heat certification numbers on drawings, and complete daily Stud Welding Quality Control Inspection sheets.
Inform Steel Fab Manager and/or Maintenance of issues needing attention.
Use radio to check in with all departments and address needs as requested.
Read rebar tickets and calculate product needs per bed using basic math skills.
Assist welder as needed.
Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.

Basic computer skills a plus.
Able to work with fractions Able to troubleshoot to solve problems Able to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes Education and Technology High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred Forklift experience preferred Previous MIG welding experience and/or experience in a steel shop preferred Prior welding certification (AWS approved establishment or can be certified)
