The Student Health and Wellness Coordinator at Howard University School of Law will coordinate efforts to create a supportive and inclusive community that promotes the mental health and well-being of law students.
In this role, the Health & Wellness Coordinator will collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs leadership and various teams and departments in the design and implementation of a comprehensive wellness program that equips students with practical tools to address individual self-care and promote help-seeking behavior.
The Health & Wellness Coordinator will develop programs and initiatives that promote community engagement and foster a sense of belonging among students.
In addition to the duties described below, the Health & Wellness Coordinator will serve as an advisor and coach to individual students on personal issues related to well-being, stress management, and self-care.SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.
Reports to the Director of Student Affairs, Adrienne Packard.NATURE AND SCOPE:Internal contacts include administrators, students, faculty, and staff of the department and University.
External contacts include vendors, visitors and the general public.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Assists Director of Student Affairs and the Office of Student Affairs team with the development of programs, events, and initiatives that support community engagement and cultivate a sense of belonging among students in collaboration with various teams and departments.Assists Director with the preparation of various reports and assist in preparation of data collection instruments, including surveys, polls, etc.Serve as an advisor and coach to individual students on personal issues related to potential medical leaves of absence, wellness, stress management, and self-care.
Receives and reconciles monthly reports from external offices, including the centralized Office for Student Affairs.
Ensure that ABA standards related to student wellbeing are incorporated in programming and planning.Researches, compiles and updates wellness activities database and assist with creation of Wellness Initiatives.Assists in the preparation of Orientation and Graduation planning and activities; assembling and summarizing information.Manage Office of Student Affairs information related to students on Medical Leaves of Absence including supporting students through the process, advising on the processing of forms, reviewing policies and guidelines, liaising with campus partners as needed, maintaining connection with students while on leave, as necessary, and overseeing the reinstatement transition for students upon their return.Advise and support students on an individual basis as they navigate the ADA accommodations process through the Office of Student Accessibility.Assists with the management, tracking, implementation, and execution of student accommodation and disability services for the department including ensuring that ADA student data are accurately recorded and monitored.
This includes communicating to students regarding disability issues and arranging for classroom and exam accommodations.Performs analysis of data and troubleshoot data integrity issues, regarding Student Wellness programming, ABA Standards compliance, etc.Provides guidance and input on key operational and systems initiatives impacting the Student Affairs responsibilities as they relate to student health & wellness.Provides general accounting and financial management support for wellness initiatives as needed.In coordination with Director, confers with department heads and directors with respect to student issues.Support the Office of Student Affairs and take on other assignments as delegated by the Director of Student Affairs.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.CORE COMPETENCIES: Ability to bring a student-centered approach to the work and be sensitive to issues faced by a diverse, demanding professional student population.Ability to keep sensitive information confidential, deal with ambiguity and change, and work independently with limited supervision.Must be self-directed and willing to identify and assume new responsibilities as the needs of the School of Law change and grow.Proven ability to exercise initiative and judgment in coordinating and executing various programs to serve the best interest of all parties involved.Strong interpersonal and communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.Ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal relationship with students, staff, legal professionals, and the general public.Works effectively in teams.Skilled in the operation of computers and related software applications.Ability to understand as system of procedures for complex program development; plan and execute projects and events; work effectively with all levels within the finance department; read and prepare general reports and correspondence; handle multiple tasks simultaneously; organize work efficiently; and provide a high level of customer service and professionalism.Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, students, University officials, staff, high school counselors and the general public.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's' Degree and three years' experience in law-related field, higher education administration or other student programs; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.Evidence of experience developing and executing innovative and high-quality programming.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to prepare and manage a budget and resources.Ability to establish priorities and deadlines while delivering quality customer service.Ability to exercise leadership skills, delegate tasks and promote, manage and provide training.Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with students, faculty, staff, University officials and the general public.Must be willing to participate in minimal travel and, when necessary, work a flexible schedule (evening and weekend events are sometimes necessary).Compliance Salary Range DisclosureExpected Pay Range: $60,000 - $65,000
