Position Summary
Lead Discovery and Optimization (LDO) is a dynamic organization that supports the entire drug discovery continuum (from lead identification to clinical candidate delivery) at Bristol Myers Squibb. The organization leverages state-of-the art screening technologies to rapidly deliver decisional in vitro datasets on on-target engagement and downstream biomarker modulation, specifically in the Mechanism of Cancer resistance (MoCR) pipeline. The Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology group within LDO is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate intern to develop novel fluorescent-based screening assays to enable early drug discovery research. This position will offer the candidate the opportunity to interact with colleagues from different departments, such as biochemistry, chemical biology and proteomics, and opportunities to work with cutting-edge automation platforms, while impacting discovery programs with their experimental data.
Key Responsibilities
Design cell-based experiments using flow cytometry and related fluorescent/luminescent approaches for proximal and distal biomarker validation
Optimize assay parameters and design a robust, reproducible screening assay
Analyze data and interpret results
Maintain scientific records and communicate results effectively in group meetings
Qualifications & Experience
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in biology, immunology, biochemistry or a related field
Highly self-motivated and fueled by an interest in contributing to science, and drug discovery in particular
Trained in basic laboratory practices such as sterile technique, cell culture, and pipetting
Strong analytical skills and ability to critically hypothesize and troubleshoot experiments
Attention to detail and good record-keeping skills are desired
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work well in teams
Familiarity with the basics of flow cytometry is a plus
