The Opportunity At Chicago CRED, we take a multifaceted approach to reducing gun violence, one proven to work in other cities. To create lasting change, we work directly with the individuals who are most likely to carry a gun or get shot, and with the communities where gun violence is most concentrated. Through Street Outreach, Coaching & Counseling, Workforce Development, and Advocacy & Prevention, we lift young people and rally neighborhoods to dramatically rewrite the story of gun violence. We believe that achieving transformative peace for all of Chicago requires us to extend our efforts beyond working solely with young men and women at the highest risk of violence involvement. The Policy team operates at both the city and state levels to create real, sustainable change by collaborating with elected officials, government leaders, and community organizations to develop an effective public health infrastructure for violence prevention.
