Job Title: Supervising, Early Case Management Paralegal Department: Matrimonial Reports To: Matrimonial Unit Supervisor FLSA Status: Exempt Summary : The 32BJ Legal Services Fund provides legal advice and representation to eligible 32BJ members and their eligible dependents. The Supervising, Early Case Management Paralegal will assist the Supervising Attorney by conducting detailed case histories with new clients; identifying, obtaining, and reviewing evidence; drafting pleadings, motions, and other related court filings; and other similar tasks and responsibilities as needed. This position is ideal for a detail oriented, self-starter looking to expand their knowledge of matrimonial law. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Conduct and document client interviews. Identify needed documentation/evidence and assist clients to gather and organize supporting documentation. Draft pleadings, forms, motions and other relevant documentation under the supervision of the Supervising Attorney. Input information and documentation into case management software. Conduct legal research. Prepare correspondence and memoranda. Work with attorneys and other stakeholders on all aspects of case management. Maintain accurate records of all work performed. Update case files timely, including: insertion of notes, correspondence and file records; scanning documents; and other similar duties as necessary to maintain client files. File documents with various courts in New York City. Assist attorneys in court when necessary. Meet regularly with the Supervising Attorney. Supervise and oversee the work of paralegals within the matrimonial department under the supervision of the Supervising Attorney. Conduct regular reviews of pending assignments and cases with matrimonial paralegals. Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Exhibit conscientiousness, dedication and a sense of responsibility. Must have a professional, cooperative, positive and flexible attitude. Qualifications: B.A Degree required. 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience is desirable. Three years' experience as a paralegal handling family or matrimonial matters or equivalent training and experience. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency highly desired. Excellent oral, research, writing, analytical and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple complex tasks. Ability to convene and lead meetings. Proficient in MS Office and experienced in utilizing computer-assisted legal research tools. Notary Public License preferred, but not required.
