The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) located in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for an experienced, Rail industry knowledgeable, and collaborative Supervisor for the Rail Districts Traction Power Section. Reporting to the Manager of Power & Way, this unique position leads and directs the Line and Substation Departments in the development, planning, and maintenance of GCRTAs Rail power distribution systems. Detailed Description


Job Requirements Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have an Associates Degree in Business Administration, Transportation Management, Management or related field with a minimum of four (4) years of experience working in a freight, commuter or passenger railroad and/or transit rail propulsion power system maintenance, inspection or construction environment. In lieu of a degree, we will consider a high school diploma or equivalent GED with a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience working in a freight, commuter or passenger railroad and/or transit rail propulsion power system maintenance, inspection or construction environment.
Applicants must have at least five (5) years of supervisory experience in the maintenance and construction of these systems. Experience can run concurrently with experience identified in previous bullet. Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
Show experience in both AC and DC electrical theory and demonstrated experience working on energized power sources that carry lethal voltages (600 - 33,000 volts).
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and be able to utilize the scheduling and inventory control software to develop plans, and schedule work crews.
The ability to acquire a State of Ohio Commercial Driver License Class A or B within six (6) months of hire.· The ability to respond to emergencies in a 24 hour / 7 day a week environment.
Additional Details Duties: Supervises all activities associated with the performance of inspection, maintenance and construction for the RTAs rail transit propulsion power distribution system including all substations and systems, underground/overhead feeds, overhead catenary systems and all appurtenances, RTAs fiber optic communication system, and all other signal and communication system aerial cables. Coordinates work activities with Service Quality Management and Service Management to minimize service disruption and maximize work efforts. Schedules and coordinates all power outages for both scheduled and emergency removal of power to sections of the RTAs rail transit propulsion power distribution system. Interacts and works with other Power & Way Units, Rail District Sections and other GCRTA Divisions to ensure all GCRTA goals are accomplished and a high standard of service is delivered to our customers. Performs follow up inspections/audits of Traction Power Units work to ensure quality of work, appropriate work efforts are performed, and compliance with regulatory requirements are met. Plans, orders and ensures availability of sufficient material to perform routine maintenance, emergency repairs and seasonal project work. Responds to Rail District emergencies such as severe weather conditions, propulsion power interruptions or failures and/or accidents/incidents to supervise and coordinate repairs and the return to service. Performs other duties as may be assigned to assist the Power & Way Manager in the daily operation of the Power & Way Section.

Environmental Conditions: This person will work predominantly in a shop/office type environment. They will also frequently be required to attend hearings, meetings and the like at external locations, and be subjected to the weather, terrain, transportation issues, etc.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for up to 8 or more hours a day. The employee is frequently required to see, hear and speak. The employee may be required to work at a computer video display terminal for more than 5 hours a day. The employee is occasionally required to travel and work irregular schedules. Lift and carry files, books, etc. to court or other venues inside/outside; frequently required to bend and kneel in performance of job duties.
Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening, auditing, inspecting, proofreading, and evaluating. Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); develop and interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress.
