Support Specialists

ROLE:

Under the supervision of the Director, provide coordination of support services and supervise the direct delivery support services to people with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

B.S. in Psychology or related field, or equivalent experience required.

Experience:

2 year direct support experience with people with similar specific needs as those served (i.e. behaviorally challenged, medically involved) or psychiatric diagnosis population in a community based or residential setting.

Certifications:

Must have current CPR/First Aid Certification, CPI and Medication Certification

Other:

Must obtain the following certifications within the first 14 days of employment: Aya Living Inc. General Orientation

Interaction/Organizational/Social Skills:
Must be able to relate positively to individuals, their families/guardians, neighbors, Regional Center representatives and other community members.
Must be mature and emotionally stable.
Must be able to consistently meet deadlines.
Knowledge of management principles related to leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of principles of Supported Living Services, self-determination, person-centered planning, and ability to communicate and apply these through assessment and evaluation of services rendered.
Ability to employ active listening, critical thinking and teaching skills to assist and support the employees working with customers.
Awareness of others and the ability to actively look for ways to support and assist the consumers and the employees who support them to meet goals and objectives in their homes and in their communities.
Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict, and communicate by listening and speaking while maintaining the dignity and respect of all parties involved.
Ability to analyze situations and determine if and when intervention may be needed to avoid potential problems.
Computer literacy and strong written literacy skills.

Primary Duties

Supervise and coordinate activities of Support Specialists engaged in providing direct Supported Living Services to the customers.
Observe and evaluate employee performance to ensure quality service and compliance with goals of objectives of the customer receiving support, and following the policies and procedures of Aya Living Inc.
Train employees in proper operational procedures, functions and company policy.
Coordinate scheduling of staff to meet the needs and requirements of the individual receiving service.
Review and assist in managing master schedules.
Maintain an ongoing record of employee performance for those directly supervise.
Resolve customer complaints regarding employee performance and services rendered.
Analyze and record personnel and operational data and write regular activity reports for the benefits of the customer, circle of support and/or the Regional Center or other agencies as needed.
Prepare administrative reports and documents as necessary.
Inspect work areas and operating equipment to ensure a safe and appropriate working environment.
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, equipment and provide necessary training to ensure quality and timely service and efficient operations.
Assure that the individuals served are provided with assistance in all aspects of their daily living and that they receive supports in all areas needed to live a full active life of their choice.
In conjunction with the individual, assure implementation and follow through on all aspects of the Individual Program Plan.
Provide advice, guidance and support to individuals regarding personal issues and life choices.
Act as an advocate for people served.
Act as liaison/consultant to individual's team.
Attend all programmatic and interim meetings.
Coordinate and attend weekly meetings.
Assure all data collection and daily documentation is completed.
Assure that individuals served have access to nutritional food that they enjoy.
Assure that all symptoms of illness reported by individuals are promptly reported to the physician of their choice.
Follow all Adult Protective Services reporting guidelines by law relating to mandated reporting.
Abide by Aya Living Inc. and State Laws regarding customer confidentiality.
Assure that family members who desire communication receive adequate communication as agreed upon.
Assure that all people served have clean clothing, sanitary and sufficient hygiene supplies and availability of laundry facilities.
Assure that persons served have access to transportation when they need it to go into their communities.
Assure that individuals served are receiving support to participate in activities of their choice daily.
Assure Supports budget and manage their finances as indicated, providing receipts for all monies spent.
Assure that the human and civil rights of persons served are being respected at all times.
Assure supports are provided to assist individuals to maintain the exterior of their home and lawn in accordance with the standards maintained at other residences in the area
Assure the maintenance of the interior of the individual's home through accessing landlords, repair service or other services as needed.
Communicate with day program or employment services as necessary in a polite friendly manner
Obtain required training to assure that training is kept current to assure continued employment.
Assume responsibility for all other duties as assigned by the Director
