JOB SUMMARY:
Surgical Assistants perform a variety of patient care, transportation and related support tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician.
JOB SPECIFICATION: EDUCATION High School diploma or equivalent preferredCompletion of a Nurse Assistant program, Emergency Medical Technician program, Orthopedic Technician program or related program is preferredEXPERIENCE A minimum of the equivalent of one-year full-time experience in a patient care position, such as a Nurse Aide, Hospital Technician or Orthopedic Technician, is requiredPREREQUISITE SKILLS Demonstrated technical competency in supplies and equipment utilized in a surgical/recovery environmentProficiency in search/data entry and basic computer skillsAbility to set priorities and maintain a calm demeanor while working in a fast paced atmosphere of conflicting demandsAbility to work tactfully and effectively with physicians, nurses and other hospital employeesAbility to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and their familiesKnowledge of principles of sterilization and aseptic techniqueLICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: BLS-HS with American Heart Association within 30 days of hireState certification as a Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required for Certified LevelESSENTIAL Lifts, moves or assists patients into and out of bed, positions patientsTransfers patients to and from transport devices and chairsPuses and pulls wheelchairs and gurneys occupied by patientsMaintains cleanliness and assembly of wheelchairs, gurneys, bed and standing scales, traction, etc.; inspects, maintains and inventories stock of wheelchairs, gurneys and all-purpose chairsWeighs patients using appropriate scales. Records in chartMay take vital signs (BP/HR/RR/temperature)Documents all patient care or tasks according to department and hospital policyAssists nursing personnel with bed making, baths, feeding, showers, oral and back care, etc.May stock rooms, sinks, carts, and closets with appropriate supplies and equipment; maintains rooms and other areas in a clean and orderly conditionMay apply orthopedic soft goods. May assemble cast supplies and assist with applicationMay set up and apply traction. Monitors patients in traction on a regular basis, adjusting, modifying and charting appropriatelyPlaces and removes bedpans and urinals when necessaryMay apply external catheters, according to hospital policyMay perform postmortem care and take patients to morguePerforms pre-operative prepsSECONDARY (modifiable) Performs other duties as directedAt MarinHealth, our top priority is the well-being of our employees, patients, and community. The compensation for this role listed on this posting is in compliance with applicable law. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on the individual's skills, experience, internal/market equity factors, and qualifications. This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position. Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
