JOB PURPOSE:




The Surgical Technologist provides patient care under the direct supervision of the Physician and the Registered Nurse.
The Surgical Technologist demonstrates responsibility and accountability in selecting, assembling, testing and operating equipment and instruments in accordance with policies and procedures.
The Surgical Technologist contributes to expected patient outcomes in accordance with policies, procedures, established standards, and administrative policies.
Any position that has direct patient care is considered to be safety sensitive by Avem Health Partners standards.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:




Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.


Responsible and accountable in performing as a primary scrub person handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure while applying principles of sterile technique.


Communicates to the surgery manager or physician of situations that may place facility at risk.


Prepares operating suites for surgery, using appropriate techniques.


Demonstrate critical thinking skills, ability to prioritize activities and integrate experiences across core area and call areas when performing scrub role.


Demonstrate ability to perform scrub role, without assistance in core area, by locating supplies/equipment and instruments.


Prepare and know the specific uses of equipment, instrumentation and supplies used for surgical procedures on assigned patients in core area and call areas.


Under supervision of the RN and the physician, demonstrate ability to prepare medications for procedures to be used by physician.
Activities include knowledge of routine drugs used intraoperatively, dosages and/or concentration and appropriate route of administration.


Demonstrate ability to anticipate needs of patient and physician in core area and call areas.


Identify emergency situations and institute established procedures to respond to emergencies efficiently.


Display flexibility towards schedule reassignment and assisting any employee in the surgery department.


Ensure all safety and infection control practices are followed.


Maintain confidentiality of client and patient information.


Participates in orientation for new hires.


Performing other duties as assigned within scope of practice.

Act as a preceptor as requested.


Demonstrate excellent work attendance and attend and actively participate in a variety of meetings and training sessions as required.

Complies with established policies and procedures and all health and safety requirements.




EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:




High school diploma or GED equivalent


Vocational / Technical school preferred


Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)


Current BLS (or obtained within 30 day of hire)




EXPERIENCE:




One (1) year experience preferred
