POSITION SUMMARY Reports To: OR Charge Nurse/Director of Surgical Services Summary: The surgical technologist prepares the operating room prior to surgery, promotes the safety of the patient during surgery, provides assistance to the surgeon during surgery, cares for the patient during surgery and cares for the instruments and supplies used in surgery.
Under the direction of a registered nurse, the surgical technologist completes all duties assigned by the registered nurse, in accordance with regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the department and facility.
The surgical technologist functions as a member of the surgical team assisting in all areas of patient care as deemed appropriate.
Work Schedule: Must be able to work non-standard hours in excess of 40 hours per week.
SKILLS & ABILITIES Education High school diploma or equivalent Graduate of an accredited surgical technology training program strongly preferred.
Will consider candidates with strong medical background willing to obtain certification.
Experience Experience in a hospital setting preferred Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
Certificates & Licenses Surgical Technologist certification preferred but not required.
Will consider candidate with strong medical background willing to obtain certification.
Current Basic Life Support certification Other Requirements May take up to 6 months to become proficient in this position.
Participates as part of the call team, paired with an RN.
Must be able to be onsite within 30 minutes.
Employee is responsible for maintaining the required CEU's as set forth by their certifying body.
This position requires constant standing, walking, use of hands and fingers, as well as, frequent reaching outward, reaching above shoulder, squatting, kneeling, bending, lifting and carrying 0-50 lbs and pushing and pulling 0-40 lbs.
