E.L. Haynes provides a rigorous and engaging college preparatory curriculum for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Our instructional program provides intensive learning experiences that deepen understanding at all grade levels so that every student is prepared to become kind and curious community members, lifelong learners, and leaders of social justice.

The Math Instructional Coach works in partnership with the campus leadership team to support teachers in delivering math instruction. The Instructional Coach focuses on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the math goals and identified needs of individual teachers.
This 10-month position reports to the campus Principal and collaborates with members of the Central Academic team for guidance and on-going development on the E.L. Haynes coaching program.
Salary range: $65,000 - $110,500 You Will: Coach teachers to effectively implement and track math instructional methods with a focus on planning, execution, and small group instruction; Model and support teachers to deliver evidence-based and effective instructional strategies; Establish and lead cycles of goal setting, lesson planning, content knowledge development, observations, student work analysis, and feedback with teachers; Record observation notes and develop key, actionable guidance in alignment with the E.L. Haynes instructional rubric; Meet regularly with teachers to provide observation feedback, identify high leverage action steps, and provide support (including practice) with teachers to help them internalize the feedback; Review math unit and weekly plans for alignment with coaching goals, content, and effective scaffolding; Attend school-based teacher leader programming to build coaching skills and provide more targeted feedback; Guide teams through planning sessions during Summer Institute and throughout the school year; Participate in weekly instructional leadership team (ILT) meetings to promote and evaluate the effectiveness of literacy programming; Support the analysis of math data and assessments in order to help teachers effectively respond to student need; Teach math classes as needed to serve as an exemplary instructional model for other teachers to observe; Support all teaching staff to implement culturally relevant and responsive teaching practices; Support math instruction and assessment of students as needed (e.g., facilitating small group interventions to further support academic recovery, participate in grade-level planning meetings, support the administration of CAPE for students, etc.); Design and deliver professional development sessions to staff (as needed); Be an active member of the school community, attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours, and completing other duties in support of the mission of E.L. Haynes as assigned; and Full COVID-19 vaccination . You Have: Five to seven years of math teaching experience in a racially, culturally, and socio-economically diverse school; A deep knowledge of math grade-level standards and a clear understanding of standards-based curriculum and standards-based assessment; Demonstrated track record of success in ensuring all students achieve ambitious academic goals; Track record of building effective and student-centered relationships with colleagues; A growth mindset that recognizes students (and families) are capable of engaging with grade-level standards and rigorous content; Used models and exemplars to drive instruction; Knowledge of effective adult learning strategies and techniques; Proven ability to lead through influence rather than authority; Skilled at empathizing, listening, and building trusting relationships that support colleague growth and development; Expertise in building a positive and supportive classroom culture and productive rapport with staff students, and families; and Strong communication, project management, and collaboration skills to ensure student and team success. You may also have: An advanced degree in education, curriculum, math or related program; and Experience with Whetstone, Canvas, Nearpod, Zoom, and other educational technology. You are:

Founded in 2004 and named for the first African-American woman to earn her Ph.D. in Mathematics, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School serves more than 1,135 students in grades Pre-K3 through 12th grade. E.L. Haynes operates two campuses in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC, and offers a rigorous educational program designed to prepare students to succeed in the college of their choice.
