Preferred QualificationsBA or BS preferred.Relevant certifications desired.All team members are expected to be HDI Support Center Analyst certified.Franklin OIT arranges for all new hires who are not certified to attend HDI SCA training and funds one certification exam attempt.Position SummaryThis position works as part of a team to utilize industry-standard tools and best practices to develop, operate, maintain, and monitor Linux and Windows systems, services, and infrastructure in both a VMWare ESX and a data center environment. This position, along with other System Administrators in the college, is responsible for many core services for Franklin College including, but not limited to, file and print services, software licensing servers, and website hosting servers and infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesTechnical Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills (hardware, OS, networking, and application).Experience supporting and maintaining systems (EL/RHEL, Debian, Windows Server).Experience with enterprise clustered and virtual hosting environments (VMware preferred).Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools (Nagios preferred).Data center experience including the installation, management, and support of storage devices, physical servers, and switches.Working knowledge of security standards and best practices.Working knowledge of automated configuration management and CI/CD tools (Puppet, PowerShell, etc).Knowledge of database development and management concepts.Experience with L2/L3 networking (Routing, VLAN Management, load balancing, firewalls).Familiarity with scripting and tools (PERL, BASH, Python, etc).Familiarity with the creation and use of software package management and versioning tools (YUM/RPM, Aptitude, Git).Familiarity with 3rd party cloud hosting and services (AWS, GCS, or Azure).Lead and manage projects and follow through to completion.Dependability Meet agreed-upon objectives of projects and tasks.Complete routine requests in a timely manner.Create a seamless experience for clients and colleagues.Perform at a consistently high standard.Participate in an annual performance development process.Productivity Set and meet realistic goals.Effectively manage time and stay on-task.Document interactions with clients/colleagues and routine tasks in a ticketing system.Maintain productivity by delegating and collaborating with team members as appropriate.Relationships Build and sustain positive, collaborative relationships with a diverse range of clients and coworkers.Promote positive morale and serves as a positive representative of Franklin OIT.Attend department and college activities.Serve as an example for colleagues.Demonstrate professionalism and clarity in written and verbal communications.Teamwork Demonstrate personal accountability and avoid blaming others.Participate in the usage and implementation of college-wide tools and standards.Contribute to projects and tasks which have a college-wide scope.Be available and proactive in assisting coworkers and clients during the workday.Train and coach team members.Manage workflows and processes within assigned team and/or projects and with team members.Strategic Planning Demonstrate initiative in planning and organizing work within scope.Participate in and facilitate decision making and problem-solving.Demonstrate alignment with Franklin OIT policies and priorities.Contribute to the development of standards and best practices.Engage with other colleagues and management to explore new technology, recommend alternative solutions, and provide feedback on strategic vision.Physical Demands This position spends long periods of time sitting/standing at a desk.Lift and move computer and server equipment independently or with assistance from colleagues.Duties/ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain, and support college-wide servers, hardware, and servicesWork closely with other teams and colleagues to properly architect complex systemsOversee and participate in the day-to-day management of physical and virtual serversServe as a technical resource and point of escalation for management and colleaguesManage and delegate tasks with team members in relation to assigned projectsTrain and develop technical skills with team members and mentor them on Franklin OIT standards and policiesRespond to requests for service and engage in proactive support through participation in routine patching and upgrade cyclesWork with research clients to architect and implement solutions based on their unique needsOversee and participate in other aspects of server support across the college (may include imaging, configurations, security implementations, networking, hardware, and software support, sharing best practices)Utilize automation to effectively manage tasks and support servicesProvide after-hours support to mission-critical services as part of a rotating on-call scheduleAdminister and support virtualization servicesFamiliar with deploying and using cloud-based Infrastructures, Platforms, and Software as Services (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS respectively).Use a ticketing system to manage time and track requestsDevelop documentation, presentations, and training materials.
