Systems Design and Characterization Engineer , with duties similar to that of an early-career device engineer or systems engineer in the private sector. The Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP) is an organized research unit within the University of California system. SCIPP's scientific and technical staff have been involved in several cutting-edge research projects for more than 25 years. The primary focus is experimental and theoretical particle physics and particle astrophysics, including the development of technologies needed to advance that research.

Under the direction of Professor Bruce Schumm, the engineer will design electronic and data acquisition components for advanced semiconductor detection systems. The engineer will also lead the design of detectors through the development of TCAD-based simulation models.

The engineer will direct the design, evaluation and readout of multi-layer hybrid electronic assemblies for detector modules for High-Energy Physics experiments and related applications.

The candidate is expected to interact with a broad group of collaborators; assist with the dissemination of the research through co-authored publications in scientific journals and presenting at relevant workshops and conferences; and assist with applications for grant and contract proposals.
