MAJOR DUTIES: Installs, configures, and maintains servers, operating systems, and software applications. Installs and sets up systems, including add-on cards and Department of Energy (DOE) authorized applications. Responds to requests to repair or replace hardware. Maintains Help Desk software for IT Department. Answers Help Desk requests and enters work-orders if needed. Responds to work-orders for hardware and software problems. Responds to stand-alone and applications problems. Inspects incoming IT equipment to validate they meet specifications. Performs network administration including: establishing and controlling user access and creating user accounts; documenting the installation of network software, hardware, and upgrades for future reference; modifying network configuration and equipment; performing or overseeing maintenance such as backups, virus checks, and preventative maintenance; and diagnoses and repairs problems. Supports automatic data processing systems including: determining users' needs; developing and completing applications programming; modifying current applications; diagnosing and correcting related hardware and software problems; and writing user guides. Gives input on what hardware and software should be purchased to meet project needs. Provides user support. Explains and demonstrates use of computer hardware, purchased software, and applications programs. Assists users in customizing their system configurations. Advises users on types of equipment or software to meet their needs. Troubleshoots and resolves software and system interface problems. Collaborates with other IT team members and departments to support technology initiatives and projects. Recommends and evaluates equipment or software for future needs. Assists in the accomplishment of department projects, initiatives, taskings and other activities as directed by supervision. Configures, installs, tests, and upgrades server, related hardware, and software. Maintains web server, including: creating monitoring logs and reports; ensuring functionality of links; performing preventive maintenance to ensure acceptable performance and user accessibility; establishing backups; and setting up disaster recovery procedures. Troubleshoots and resolves system errors and bugs. Resolves or works with other personal computer specialists to resolve server/client problems. Sets and implements procedures to ensure safety and security of web site; notifies users of procedures and practices necessary to maintain security of site. Provides technical advice and assistance to users in setting up and maintaining documents, data collection instruments such as surveys and forms, and other web content. Uses various software applications, techniques, and tools to program user interface features. May program web-based applications or adapt existing applications; may assist users in developing web-based training or convert existing training materials to web-based programs. Performs analysis and programming to support company operations; analyzes user needs and requirements to determine appropriate approach; prepares feasibility studies and project plan. Develops, implements, tests, and maintains programs related to Human Resources/Payroll, finance, and other company operations. May evaluate software for purchase. May assist users in developing computer-based training programs or convert existing training materials to computer-based programs. Prepares technical and user documentation. Interacts with DOE and SRNS personnel to determine requirements and data interfaces for site applications. Must perform all responsibilities for environment, safety and health as defined in Procedure 1-3100 and adhere to the principles and functions of Integrated Safety Management. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Associate's degree in Computer Science; or five years of experience in computer support, including troubleshooting, repair installation, network administration, and programming .
2. Familiar with administration scripting languages.
3. Familiar with operating systems (i.e. Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, VMWare ESXi and vCenter).
4. Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Azure or Hyper-V.
5. Must be able to obtain/maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance.
