Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy () is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. The School has built a reputation for its continued pursuit of excellence, rigorous education and training programs, cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, progressive pharmacy practices, efficient business operations, and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students. Position Summary The Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor will work in concert with outpatient pharmacy practice sites to develop and deliver training programs and to integrate patient care services into the professional curriculum, with attention given to the healthcare needs of rural communities.
Develop and deliver an internship training program, including but not limited to: Engage virtually or on-site with the pharmacy owner or manager, site coordinator, preceptors, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other personnel, as necessary and appropriate; Prepare pharmacy sites to engage with learners of all types (interns, residents or fellows) and support a layered learning practice model; Lead recruitment of pharmacy interns, including development of marketing materials, conducting interviews and selecting candidates; Provide orientation to and regular oversight of operational and clinical activities provided by pharmacy interns; Assist in patient care provision with interns, including quality assurance of work completed and engaging in interprofessional collaboration opportunities in the community; Mentor interns on aspects critical to their growth and development, including; provision of regular feedback and evaluations, in conjunction with the pharmacy sites and staff.
Teach in the professional program, including coordination, facilitation and instruction, as well as mentoring trainees who are preparing classroom teaching materials. Serve on the leadership team for the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program and its associated fellowship program
Collaborate and support Rural Health Initiative goals to expand footprint of learners training and serving in rural communities
* Mentor and provide feedback to trainees, in conjunction with site coordinators and site preceptors, as necessary and appropriate
* Identify interprofessional collaborations that learners can interface with in their patient
care duties Become an engaged member of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists ( NCAP ) and other state and national professional organizations with emphasis on serving rural
communities
Support School and Division activities to advance pharmacy practice
* Provide pharmacy sites with summary reports of intern activities and outcomes to aid in quality improvement and further program development
* Disseminate outcomes of training programs and pharmacy services in a scholarly manner
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
* A Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy
* Certificate of Completion from an accredited PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy
Residency Program
* Prior experience developing, delivering and documenting patient care services for a
rural pharmacy site
* Prior experience teaching or evaluating pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy
fellows, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, or other support personnel in
delivery of pharmacy services
* Prior experience serving as a director or primary preceptor for a rural PGY1 Communitybased Pharmacy Residency Program
* Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of North Carolina
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Experience developing and delivering community-based instructional content to a
variety of audiences, including but not limited to, patients, student pharmacists,
pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and other health care providers
Prior experience partnering with outpatient pharmacy sites who provide enhanced
services, particularly those within rural communities
* Prior experience preparing a pharmacy(ies) to serve as a site within a PGY1 Communitybased Pharmacy Residency Program
* Working knowledge of pharmacy quality metrics and quality metrics that impact
primary care providers
* Current or prior experience as an appointed or elected leader within a state or national
pharmacy association
* Received or eligible to obtain the Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist ( BCACP )
credential
* Scholarly productivity as evidenced by referred abstracts, grant funding, and peerreviewed publications
