About the Team Our client developed a powerful, open-source JavaScript library that allows developers to easily create a visual programming interface editor for their products. This enables users to build applications without the need for traditional text-based coding and powers some of the world's leading computer science products that teach kids how to code, including MIT Scratch, Microsoft MakeCode, and Tinkercad. It's also used extensively by developers in a wide range of industries, including robotics, industrial automation, business applications, and web development.
About the Role Our client is embarking on an exciting journey to modernize developer documentation and support experience. We need a talented technical writer to help drive this work. As the Technical Writer, you'll write and maintain external documentation for a developer audience, such as developer guides, tutorials, sample code, codelabs, and other external reference materials. Based on developer community feedback, you will completely revamp the developer documentation to transform it into a world-class resource that empowers developers of all skill levels and market applications. Job Responsibilities Lead the modernization of the developer's documentation: Define and implement a content strategy and information architecture based on developer feedback and internal guidance; redesign existing technical guides; and implement a comprehensive content audit to identify gaps and areas for improvement. Drive developer documentation for accessibility initiatives: Work with engineering to create and launch accessibility feature documentation, distilling essential information to support interoperability for a diverse range of external stakeholders and use cases. Create high-quality developer documentation and getting started materials: Develop engaging developer guides, documentation, tutorials, sample code, plugin and API references, codelabs; create developer guides specifically to help new developers get started quickly and easily. Collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and marketing: Work with engineers to ensure timely and accurate documentation for developer library and plugin releases, document new features, and validate existing documentation. Partner with marketing on new features and program launch materials to ensure they have supporting documentation at launch. Drive ongoing process for documentation quality: Assist in developing and implementing a robust content maintenance process and establish documentation best practices within the team, and track documentation usage and effectiveness within the developer community. Job Qualifications: Proven experience working with engineers to create and maintain documentation for technical developers (e.g., APIs, SDKs, libraries) in a highly complex developer ecosystem. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field preferred. Previous experience as a software developer or in a similar technical role. Experience delivering results in ambiguous, constantly changing environments. Strong understanding of information architecture and content strategy. Excellent writing and communication skills with a strong attention to detail. Experience with JavaScript and web development technologies. Familiarity with GitHub. Proficiency with Markdown and HTML. Preferred Qualifications: Experience modernizing technical developer documentation for technical libraries. Passion for open-source software, accessibility, and developer advocacy. Hands-on experience with programming languages, software development workflows, and tools commonly used by developers. The hourly pay rate range for this position is $70.00 to $76.00/hr (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
