This job provides assistance and support to the perfusionists as they perform their services. These duties may include setting up of perfusion circuits, physiological monitoring, cell saving, rapid infusion pumps and the operation and monitoring of various types of point of care testing equipment, documentation and maintenance of perfusion records and procedures during cases, monitoring of inventory, and ordering supplies. Assures that all equipment is clean and functioning for each procedure and demonstrates actions consistent with the Advanced Optical Microscopy Facility (AOMF) guiding principles as duties are performed on a daily basis. Preferred - Additional degrees, business training experience and/or certifications may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.
Work Experience Required - 2 years of experience in healthcare setting.
Certifications Required - Certification by the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology (AmSECT) as a Perioperative Blood Management Technologist within two years of hire
OTHER Required -
Training in Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping and Autologous Blood Salvaging Techniques (programs offered at Ochsner)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard. Job Duties Assures that all rooms and carts are stocked with necessary supplies each day. Assists with assembling, disassembling, and disposable of perfusion circuits and equipment utilized by the Perfusionist for each procedure and follows approved disposal methods for contaminated supplies. Maintains all equipment in operating order for each case. Assists in the design of policy and procedure manuals for lab equipment and blood salvage devices. Orders supplies as needed by close monitoring of inventory levels resulting in no incidences of equipment unavailability. Attends in service and educational opportunities as instructed. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
